General Description

History

Foça School of Tourism and Hotel Management, which forms the basis of our faculty, was established on 20 September 2008.
Its name was changed to Reha Midilli Foça School of Tourism and Hotel Management on 16.02.2010.
Reha Midilli Foca School of Tourism and Hotel Management was closed on 26.08.2014 and Reha Midilli Foca Faculty of Tourism was established in its place.
Our faculty moved to Dokuz Eylül University Tınaztepe Campus on 22.10.2020. It continues its educational activities under the name of Dokuz Eylül University Tourism Faculty.

Students Arriving by Lateral Transfer
For students who would like to come to Dokuz Eylul University by lateral transfer from the higher education institutions abroad and from Türkiye, the evaluation conditions determined by the University Senate and the Regulations about the Credit Transfer and Double Major, Minor Transfer among the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs of the Higher Education Institutions are applied. The number of students to be accepted in the framework of lateral transfer is announced by Council of Higher Education-Türkiye. The evaluation is made by the commissions set up at relevant faculties and schools, then the decisions are made and announced by the relevant commissions.

Students arriving by the Vertical Transfer
Vertical transfer of the students graduated from vocational schools and willing to continue to the bachelor s degree programmes in the same field (as continuation of the previous education), the Regulation about the Continuation of Graduates from Vocational Schools and from Associate Degree Programmes of Open Education to Bachelor s Degree Programmes is applied.
The quotas reserved by the University is stated to the Direction of ÖSYM and they are published and announced in the Guide of Vertical Transfer prepared by ÖSYM. Placement procedures are realized in a centralized way by the ÖSYM according to the results of the Vertical Transfer Examination.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to successfully complete all courses of the programme (equivalent to 240 ECTS total) and obtain a minimum average grade point of 2.00 out of 4.00.
In addition, conditions in the Associate and Bachelors Degree Education and Examination Regulationsshould be met.

Profile of the Programme

Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Tourism, Department of Tourism Management is aimed to educate students who have institutional information and skills to apply them in their field for giving service in tourism and hospitality industry, are inclined to teamwork and independent workouts and could take responsibility, could communicate efficiently, have the ability of discussing and solving problems they will face by having an opinion related to his field, and are aware of rule of conduct, social responsibility and lifelong learning. Education period is 4 years. 30% of the education is in English. Additionally, students are provided 40 work-day internship in order to increase their vocational experience.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Being able to determine the learning needs about the tourism sector and to develop positive attitude about the lifelong learning.
2   Being able to have advanced level field information which enables critical approach to theories and principles about tourism sector.
3   Being able to use the advanced level field information and abilities for commenting on the data, describing the problems, analysing and developing suggestions for solutions based on proof and research.
4   Being capable of using language, information and communication technologies required by tourism sector.
5   Being able to take responsibility to decide on the solutions of the operational problems and to manage complex, current and professional projects.
6   Being able to communicate efficiently, to work independently and within a group.
7   Being able to analyse, model, construct, describe the service processes in tourism sector.
8   Being able to create own opinion, discuss and solve the problems about many subjects on tourism sector in at least two foreign languages.
9   Being able to follow and comment on the current development and changes in tourism sector.
10   Being able to organize projects and activities for own social environment with a sense of ethics and social responsibility.
11   Being able to use a second foreign language at intermediate level
12   Having an analytical and holistic point of view, ability to think critically and strategically.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Tourism Management program can work in public and private institution such as hospitality management, tour management, airline and airport management, food-beverage operations management, etc.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates who completed undergraduate programmes requirements successfully can register to second cycle pogrammes (master) of national and international higher education institutions if they can meet the related requirements.

Instructional plan of the department consists of 43 compulsory and 12 elective courses (a total of 240 ECTS). 30% of courses are offered in English. Our students also have to do internship for 40 working days to increase their professional experience.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course are defined in the course details prepared by the faculty member/s that can be reached in the Information Package.
The relevant articles of ASSOCIATE AND UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION AND EXAM REGULATIONS of the Council of Higher Education and EDUCATION AND EXAM APPLICATION REGULATIONS of Faculty of Turizm at Dokuz Eylül University are applied to the exam and course grades.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete 4 years of study acquiring 240 ECTS credits. The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, 40 working days of practical training period and have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00.
