Course Objective

The aim of the course is to provide skills for successful change management and to provide information that will enable successful management of change of businesses and employees.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can understand the nature of change.
2   Can understand the changes in individual, organizational and social dimensions.
3   Can evaluate how and in what way change occurs.
4   Can relate leadership and change.
5   Gains the knowledge and skills of being a successful change manager and change leader by using the knowledge about change management.

1 Definition of Change Definition of change, its reasons and types. Differences between change and innovation.
2 Organizational Change Definition of organizational change; objectives, stages, and management processes.
3 Globalization and Organizational Change Effects of globalization on organizational change; international competition and cultural differences.
4 Change Strategies Different change strategies (e.g., chaotic change, planned change) and implementation methods.
5 Success Criteria in Change Strategies Defining success criteria; performance measurements and evaluation methods.
6 Resistance to Change Reasons for resistance to change; examination of resistance at the individual and group levels.
7 Formal Structure in the Change Process The relationship between organizational structure and the change process; the importance of formal structures.
8 Systems in the Process of Change Systems used in the change process; information systems and feedback mechanisms.
9 Reducing Resistance to Change Management of resistance to change; the role of communication, participation, and training.
10 Organizational Change Management in Management Approaches The roles of different management approaches (e.g., classical, systemic, situational) in organizational change management.
11 Organizational Change and the Post-Modern Perspective The impact of post-modern thinking on organizational change; flexibility, cultural change, and creativity.

Assessment Criteria

Exam papers will be evaluated regarding the level of understanding, as well as defining the causality between the basic concepts and issues of the lecture, ability of giving examples and analytical thought and using relevant terminology.
