Course Objective

To explain the functioning and importance of the open innovation paradigm in the tourism ecosystem and to gain the ability to manage the innovation process.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Innovation Concept, Ecosystem and Ecosystem Types The concept of innovation, the concept of ecosystem, the components of the ecosystem, the types of ecosystems, the business ecosystem and its types, the relationship between ecosystem and innovation, the need for innovation.
2 The Relationship Between Civilizations and Innovation Throughout History Innovation in ancient times: The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Gate of Isthar, the Tower of Babel, the conditions that require innovation to occur, the development of the concept of innovation, Schumpeter, internationally relevant organizations, the regenerative reflex.
3 Innovation Process and Innovation Strategy The innovation process and models, the push model, the pull model, the innovation process and models, the relationship between innovation and invention, the OECD innovation strategy, types of innovation, product innovation.
4 Types of Innovation: Product Radical, incremental, structural and disruptive innovation, product innovation in goods, product innovation in services, innovation in the 7th art.
5 Types of Innovation: Service and Process, Basic Research Basic research, Science Infinite Front Report, Vannevar Bush, the emphasis on financing innovation in the report, the changing nature of innovation in the USA after the report, process innovation, Zero Trust Network Access.
6 Types of Innovation: Organizational and Marketing-I Organizational innovation, corporate architecture and its components, types of organizations, sample businesses, marketing innovation, examples.
7 Types of Innovation: Marketing-II The concept of crowdsourcing, the GE First Build example, innovation of the marketing mix, the relationship between marketing mix and innovation, need (desire) and purchasing behavior, basic conditions for marketing innovations.
8 Innovation, Reality Types, Metaverse and Robots Innovation and technology, metaverse, the relationship between metaverse and innovation, the concept and types of reality, the relationship between innovation and types of reality, innovation determinants, macro and micro innovation, an innovation story, service robots and the innovation process.
9 Global Innovation Index, Radical and Incremental Innovation Innovation and industrial revolutions, the effects of electricity on industry, the relationship between technology and innovation, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Global Innovation Index, Index review, degree of innovation, innovation system hierarchy, radical innovations, incremental innovations.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1.Midterm Exam: Mid-term exam covers the topics examined in the course and weekly assignments (40%).
2.Final Exam: Final exam covers all subjects in the course content. Students are also responsible for the discussion, practice and case studies (60%).

Assessment Criteria

Exam papers will be evaluated regarding the level of understanding, as well as defining the causality between the basic concepts and issues of the lecture, ability of giving examples and analytical thought, and using relevant terminology.
