History |
Department of History was founded in 1998 and started education with Undergraduate Program in 2005-2006 academic years. Our department offers Graduate Studies in History; and also, comparative historical approach is preferred as an efficient method in Ph. Degrees. The History Department also offers Graduate studies with its enriched M.A. and Ph.D. programs. |

In Turkish Higher Education institutions, the recognition of previous formal education and lateral and vertical transfers and transfers within the university are carried out within the scope of the assessment criteria determined by the Senate of our University and the REGULATION ON THE PRINCIPLES CONCERNING TRANSFER, DOUBLE MAJOR, MINOR AND CREDIT TRANSFER BETWEEN INSTITUTIONS AT UPPER SECONDARY EDUCATION AND UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
4 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.In order for students to complete their education successfully in our faculty, their GPA (Grade Point Average) should be at least 2.00. Final year students who are not able to get a GPA of 2.00 are entitled to take a one-course examination in order to increase the GPA if they are able to fulfil the condition of a GPA of 2.00 from the courses included in the program of the last four semesters. Those who are not able to get a GPA of 2.00 through one-course examination are entitled to take a mid-term exam, final exam or make-up exam from the courses of the last four semesters. The students benefit from this right of examination in the exam period during the semester in which the courses are opened. The students who would like to benefit from this right of examination declare the exams that they will take at the beginning of the semester during registration. |
Profile of the Programme |
The objective of the Undergraduate Program of the department of History is to raise historians who are equipped with the knowledge, skill, and competence that may serve in any field on which history can be applied; who have the social sense of responsibility and ethical values; who can interpret the effects of the changes and developments in local and global dimensions over history by following them; and who are objective, curious and scientific. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession in the public or private enterprises. Alumni who have necessary qualifications can be appointed as history teachers to the States high schools. If they prefer, they will have chance to work in other Civil services. They can also be appointed as history teacher in private collages and institutions. In addition to these, newspaper, libraries, archives, museums and international organizations are the other areas that they prefer to work. |
Access to Further Studies |
The students who have completed their undergraduate education successfully can continue their studies in graduate programs (second cycle) in their own field or related fields provided that they pass the examination ALES and have sufficient knowledge of English. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The assessment methods used for each course are defined in the Course Syllabus Form prepared by the Instructor of the course and included in the Information Package. The related articles of the Regulations on Dokuz Eylul University Upper Secondary Education, Undergraduate Education and Examinations and Education and Examination Principles of Faculty of Letters are applied. |
Graduation Requirements |
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS.Graduation requirements are as stated in the chapter Qualification requirement and regulations. |
