Course Objective

The main interest of this course is the period of Crusades and the socio-cultural and economic factors influencing the period.

1 Europe before the Crusades The social, economic and cultural situation of Europe before the Crusades
2 The rise of the Crusades the emergence of the Crusaders idea and its reasons
3 The church and the Holy see the view of the papacy and the church on the crusades
4 The Council of Clermont and the First Crusade the first crusdes call made at the Clermont council in 1095 and the movement of the crusaders to the east
5 The entrance of the Crusades to Anatolia what happened during the passage of first crusders armies in the Balkans and the Anatolia
6 The Crusader States Crusader sates established in the east: urfa, Antakya, Trablus, Kudüs
7 The Second Crusade the emergence and development of the second crusade
8 Midterm Exam
9 the Turks and Crusaders the defences of the Seljuks
10 The Third Crusade the emergence and the development of the third crusade
