History

Textile Department was founded in the academic year of 1977-1978 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dokuz Eylül University. Education including weaving, printing and apparel design courses is being supported by the theoretical and practical courses regarding art and design such as history and philosopy of art and colour knowledge. In 1990, the department had the fourth major by the establishment of Fashion Accessory Design program. Department was renamed as Textile and Fashion Design Department in 2008-2009 academic year. Education has been performed in three majors namely Textile Design, Fashion Apparel Design and Fashion, Accessory Design since 2009-2010 academic year.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

An undergraduate transfer to the faculty is applied within the meritorious regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 27561 dated 24.4.2010 about: transfers between associate degree programs and undergraduate programs, double major, lateral branch and interinstitutional credit transfer making.
In the vertical transfers; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 24676 dated 19.2.2002 about: undergraduate education attendance of graduates of vocational high school and open-university associate degree program is applied.
Within the transfer of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 20112 dated 18.3.1989 about getting associate diploma or adaptation of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools is applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.
1- Fakültede ders geçme sistemi ile eğitim-öğretim yapılır.
2- Bir öğretim yılına ait eğitim-öğretim programında başarılmamış olan derslere bir sonraki öğretim yılında öncelikle kayıt yaptırılır.
3- Fakültede mutlak değerlendirme sistemi uygulanır.
4- Yarıyıl not ortalaması (YNO); öğrencinin ilgili yarıyılda kayıt olduğu derslerin kredilerinin ders notu ile çarpılıp toplanarak elde edilen sayının, o yarıyıldaki toplam kredisine bölünmesi sureti ile hesaplanır.
5-Genel not ortalaması (GNO); öğrencinin tamamlamış olduğu yarıyıl da dâhil olmak üzere, öğretiminin başladığı zamandan o güne kadar kayıt olduğu tüm derslerin kredilerinin ders notu ile çarpılıp toplanarak elde edilen sayının toplam kredisine bölünmesi sureti ile hesaplanır.
6- GNO ve YNO hesabında yalnız kayıt olunan dersler esas alınır, alt yarıyıllardan alınamayan dersler dikkate alınmaz. Tekrarlanan dersler için, o dersten alınan son başarı notu dikkate alınır. Ortalamaların hesabında virgülden sonra iki basamak yürütülür.
7-Yeniden alınan veya tekrarlanan derslerden alınan en son not, geçme notudur. Azamî ders yüküne ek olarak iki dersi geçmemek üzere ders alınıp alınmayacağı ve koşulları Fakülte Yönetim Kurulu tarafından belirlenir.

Profile of the Programme

Textile Design Major has been taken place at the Textile and Fashion Design Department since 2009-2010 academic year. The aim is to train designers having knowledge in the expertise area of weaving, knitting, printing and design culture and professional ethics, being open-minded, innovative, contemporary and creative and capable of contributing to the advanced Research and Development (R&D) studies, being competitive in both national and international platform. During the four-year education period, design courses relevant basic art and area of expertise are mainly conducted. Fundemental textile design and production courses are supported by elective courses of the department and faculty. The proportion of two compulsory courses of department having 4 ECTS in foreign language to the courses of the major is 1,66 %. Theoretical and practical knowledges in the fields of weaving, printing and knitting are taught and education is supported by practices and performed with equipments in line with the technological development. Training covers form, function, technology, material and aesthetic approaches to interior design, apparel design, knitting design and artistic textile design. Textile design major aims to train open-minded individuals and designers capable of knowing current innovations through education, resarch and artistic activities collaborating with national and international foundations to meet the demand of professional textile designers in the textile industry. A pioneering mission is undertaken to promote and represent the textile design and designers at the highest level in society. At the department, 11 classrooms, 4 ateliers ( Weaving, Printing, Accessory and Apparel), 1 chemistry laboratory, 2 computer laboratories and 2 stores exist.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

1-A student is required to have minimum CGPA of 50/ 100 and no failing grades.
2-A student is required to have minimum 240 credıts of ECTS ın total. Electıve courses cover at least % 60 of 240 ECTS
