Bus

Innercity Transportation
Inner-city transportation is cheap and offers various alternatives like buses, ferries, subway, taxis, shared taxis and Izban. Izban is a commuter railway system serving İzmir and its metropolitan area and is used by approximately 150,000 passengers daily.
For public transportation, citizens use İzmirim Kart which is a kind of chipcard used on public buses, ferries, subway and enables the users to travel more cheaply around İzmir. There are also discounts for the students.

Climate
Izmir shows all the characteristics of the Mediterranean climate which is characterized by long, hot and dry summers and mild to cool, rainy winters. The temperatures during the winter months vary between 5o C – 10o C and during summer the air temperature ranges between 25o C – 40o C.
Language

Banking Services and Credit Cards
The banking sector has a vital role in the Turkish Economy. There are approximately 50 investment, development and commercial banks operating in Turkey.

Academic Calender
The Academic year consists of two terms. Fall term begins in September and ends in January, spring term begins in February and ends in June. Terms consist of 16/17 weeks.
Orientation Program:
Erasmus incoming students’ orientation program which is organized in the first week of the semester, consists of general information about Turkey & Turkish Culture, useful practical matters and a trip to Ephesus &Şirince.
Turkish Language Course
Turkish Language Course is offered to all Erasmus Exchange Students, free of charge every friday afternoon during one semester. It aims to teach basic practical Turkish which can be useful for daily life. Students will acquire 3 ECTS Credits and a certificate at the end of the course if they take 70/100 points.
Visa
Prior to their arrival to Turkey, Erasmus students must obtain an education visa from the Turkish consulates at their home countries.
Residence Permit
The students who stay in Turkey longer than 3 months, have to apply for a residence permit within one month after their arrival in Turkey.
