Course Objective

This lesson s aim is to teach students to have good ability on the computer, to teach them the basic components of the computer, working principles and the area of usage of the commonly used raster and vector base software and to use effectively the software Adobe Photoshop for textile design.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have the good ability of using the computer in the basic level
2   To know the software and the basic components of the computer
3   To learn the digital image principles in detail and to adapt the designs to the different digital image software
4   To convert the images to the different digital data (scan) and to lean the principles of readjustment and outputs progress
5   To use the Adobe Photoshop image processing software effectively for textile design
6   To create designs for different textile branches

Course Contents

1 Description of the basic components of the computer and their functions
2 Description of the digital image, the basic features of the vector and raster (pixel) based images, installing the Adobe Photoshop, adjusting the system settings, the basic features of the software, starting to learn the main and helper commands
3 Technical specifications of the file formats (tiff, psd, jpeg etc.) and starting to learn the using specifications of the digital image tools of Adobe Photoshop
4 Practices on drawing (pencils, brushes) and the main features of the selection tools, readjusting and practices to have good ability on them
5 Description of the single and halftone files and photography, converting the pictures, designs, etc. to different digital images with different techniques, preserving, readjusting
6 Functional principles of the file levels and their characteristics
7 Practices on the levels and entering the design
8 Practices on the levels
9 Description of the colour models and practices on the colour channels
10 Dressing techniques and practices on the different images
11 Practices on the designs, dressing models and general review

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods


1. Courses
The lecturer practically teaches the students the basic software and the hardware that constitute a computer, the basic information aimed at the computer supported design, digital image processing principles and the Adobe Photoshop image processing software so that they can create their own designs aimed at various textile groups.

2. Students prepare and present the assignments and projects that can improve the design-plotting ability and that are aimed at effectively using the Adobe Photoshop image processing software.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Performance evaluation of the students will be according to ability of using software, carrying out pre-printing phases on the computer, making mass production designs fit for the purpose and make them suitable for producing and according to printing, design, aesthetic, technical success.

Assessment Criteria

Credits that will be achieved from student s participation: 1 credit can be achieved from participation to the lessons, 2 credits from the quality of the answers given by student to the questions asked by teaching assistant and their performance in the class, 3 credits for the contribution from the student to create a positive atmosphere in the class.

Course Policies and Rules

1.Taking part in the 80% of the lessons is compulsory.
2.All kind of plagiarization or attempting to it end up with disciplinary punishment.
3.Not participating in the lesson and late delivery of the projects will be not considered as an excuse.
4.One letter grade will be removed per day for each late project delivery.
