DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: Civil Engineering E.P.

General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Civil Engineering E.P. Department has been established in 1968 within the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of Ege University. In 1982, by the establishment of Dokuz Eylül University, the department has gotten involved in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture this new university. Since the leave of the Faculty of Architecture in 1992, the department proceeds with its education within the Faculty of Engineering. Currently, the education program constitutes formal and evening education programs known as Turkish Program. In addition to the undergraduate program, the department also provides graduate level education and offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering E.P. within the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences for 6 different programs (Geotechnical, Hydraulics- Hydrology and Water Resources, Construction, Transportation, Construction Materials and Construction Management).

Qualification Awarded

Civil Engineering E.P., Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc)

Level of Qualification

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

For students who intend to transfer to Dokuz Eylül University from universities in Türkiye and in foreign countries, the articles of Regulation on the principles of student transfer between programs at associate and undergraduate degrees in higher education institutions, dual major and minor program standards and principles on credit transfers between institutions as well as the Evaluation Criteria on Student Transfer determined by Dokuz Eylül University Senate are implemented.
The vertical transfers of the graduates of Vocational Schools to undergraduate programs related to their completed programs are subject to the rules of Regulation on the continuation of the graduates of Vocational Schools and Distant Learning Programs to undergraduate programs.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

To graduate from this 4 year program, students are required to successfully complete all courses and satisfy a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. The students also need to complete the 12 weeks practical training program, complete the graduation project and have a cumulative grade point average of a minimum of 2.00 / 4.00.

Profile of the Programme

The objective of First Cycle (Bachelor s Degree) program is to train graduates capable of designing, constructing and operating processes related to civil engineering; by considering the progress in science and technology, choosing and applying materials, devices and methods which are necessary for their specific projects; keeping ahead the society benefits and engineering ethics.
To achieve this objective, the program includes courses on soil mechanics, foundation construction, construction materials, structural statics, reinforced concrete and steel structures design, highway design and surveying, hydrology, hydraulics and the design of hydraulic structures, besides the fundamental engineering courses. These courses are supported with modern educational materials. In addition to professional educational activities, the department is also actively involved in applied and theoretical research. Successful students of the program may also complete Dual Major Undergraduate Program and/or Minor Program in Environmental Engineering. Students who successfully complete the dual major program receive another diploma in the second major and students who successfully complete the minor program receive a certificate in the second program.
The department is MÃœDEK-accredited since 2006 and has EUR-ACE label since 2011. The Bologna Process (European Higher Education Area compliance studies) is underway since 2010 in the department that will allow citizens of countries from European Higher Education Area to have easier access to get higher education and to work within Europe. During the Bologna compliance studies conducted in the department, the aims and outcomes of the Environmental Engineering program that was set within the scope of MUDEK are updated in parallel to the internal and external shareholders opinions and the European Education Area principles. Diploma supplements are provided to graduates since 2011. The university received the Diploma Supplement Label in 2012. Studies on receiving the ECTS Label are currently underway.
The department aims to form bilateral agreements with internationally renowned institutions for student and staff exchange to improve the knowledge and experience gained. In this context, the department has many bilateral agreements within the scopes of ERASMUS Student and Staff Exchange Program and FARABÄ° National Exchange Program, respectively, as of 2012.
The department has advanced laboratories for educational and research activities. Within this scope, Construction Materials, Hydraulics, Structural Engineering and Highway Materials Laboratories, not only serves as research facilities of the department but also provide experimental and measurement service to industry.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Civil engineering is a branch of fundamental engineering that combines the optimum materials and techniques working on planning, design and supervision of construction projects. Thus the graduates having civil engineering education can work for the planning, design, construction and supervision of many types of service and industrial structures such as buildings, airports, harbors, bridges, highways, sewerage and clean water networks, tunnels, railways, metros etc.
Our graduates can be employed in both government and private sectors of national and international projects.

Access to Further Studies

Students who graduate from this program can apply for second cycle programs.
