Course Objective

The English terminology related with Concrete Technology will be presented within the scope of this course. The learning of these technical terms will open new horizons in the future academic and professional lifes of students.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course the students will be able to define the English terminology related to the cement and aggregates
2   to describe the concepts used in fresh and hardened concrete by using English terminology
3   to choose the appropriate types of cement and concrete classes according to the terminology of the United States and the European Union
4   to differentiate the factors affecting the mechanical properties and durability of hardened concrete

2 Chemical composition of Portland Cement and quality control tests
3 Types of Portland Cements and special cements
4 General classification of aggregate, sampling and sieve analysis, grading curves
5 Basic considerations on concrete mix design
6 Basic considerations on concrete mix design
7 Factors affecting workability of concrete and fresh concrete tests
8 Methods of concrete curing, cracking of concrete, elasticity, shrinkage and creep
9 Factors affecting mechanical properties of concrete
10 Mechanical testing of concrete
11 Permeability and pore structure of concrete
12 Durability of concrete
13 Strength data evaluation, variation in test results, acceptance criteria
14 Strength data evaluation, variation in test results, acceptance criteria
