: PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS TEACHING

General Description

History

With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 09.04.2019 and numbered 2018/11657 published in the Official Gazette numbered 30431 dated 26.05.2018, our Faculty of Sports Sciences was established under the Presidency of Dokuz Eylul University.

It is a four-year Physical Education and Sports Teaching program that aims to design efficient systems in the field of physical education and sports, to provide the use of developing sports technology in the field of sports, to train sports scientists, to raise physical education and sports throughout the country, and to train qualified personnel.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, student selection with sport ability examination (assesment of sport background and/or sport performance tests) and placement through a nation-wide student selection examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules about recognizing previous education and lateral transfer to our school are defined at the DEU associate degree and bachelors degree and exam regulations and our Implementing guidelines.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Relative assessment system is applied in our school. The details about assessment proficiency conditions are determined at our Implementing Guidelines.

Profile of the Programme

The informations which will constitute the requirements of teaching profession are giving by expert academicians in this program. Our 3rd and 4th class students are doing internship implementings at the Ministry of National Education schools. Also the teaching profession related skills of our students are increasing by performing common studies with Balçova Municipality. Performance Laboratory, Psycho-Physiology Laboratory, sports hall, Fitness Center and Swimming Pool are the centers for our students to improve themselves.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To have knowledge about basic concepts of sports and physical education. Ability to use conjecture, debates and research methods as multidisciplinary.
2   Ability to follow up the specific knowledge and associate them with other fields.
3   To recognize the various characteristics of the individual such as physical, socio-economic, mental, emotional and psychomotor traits.
4   Ability to understand the importance of individual differences, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, studying and learning habits on permanent and significant learning.
5   Ability to create significant learning experiences by understanding basic concepts, research and analysis tools, and structure of the field.
6   Ability to apply various teaching strategies to encourage developments of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills.
7   To be able to create learning opportunities by perceiving teaching principles and methods. Ability to apply career guidance in self identity, school adaptation, physical development, intra and/or extracurricular activities, performance levels, learning and studying habits, interests and skills.
8   Ability to create facilities and opportunities fitting the characteristics of special populations and students in need of special education.
9   Ability to show sensitivity to basic principles, goals, problems, and future of the education system, act ethically in teaching profession, develop strategies in creating a culture of sport in the society, introducing various sports and promoting participation in sports.
10   Ability to reveal talented athletes in different sports branches, using the criteria for screening and talent selection in sports.
11   To have information about health problems, injuries and rehabilitation in sport and to be able to do first aid and basic life support skills
12   To be informed of the sports branches' rules, tactics and strategies; and to be capable of implementing and teaching the sports branches' fundamental techniques.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The students, who are graduated from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, has the opportunities of working as Teacher at the Public or Private Education Institutions.

In the curriculum of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, there are compulsory courses that students are required to take and elective courses that they can choose within the framework of the subjects they are interested in. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Our measurement and evaluation methods are appropriate to our Implementation Principles 4th Section.

Graduation Requirements

The Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching students have to take minimum 240 ECTS credits for graduate.
