General Description

History

Maritime Faculty started education in 1988 with the title School of Maritime Business and Management in the body of the Dokuz Eylul University as the first higher education school in Turkey concerning maritime business. Medium of instruction of the Faculty is English and main aim is to meet the qualified manpower requirements of the Turkish maritime industry. By the higher education institutes plenary committee meeting on 10.03.2006, it has been decided that the Marine Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylul University, School of Maritime Business and Management could accept students on the academic year of 2006 2007, open a mandatory english preperation class and medium of lectures to be in english language. Department curriculum covers International Maritime Organization (IMO) STCW Convention Table A-III/1 and A-III/2 fields and also required engineering courses. The department is in Tınaztepe Campus..The graduates have the right to sit for the Unlimited Engineer Officer exam held by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications. In 2009, the School of Maritime Business and Managements name turned into Maritime Faculty. In 2011-2012 academic year a joint degree program with Maine Maritime Academy was started. Marine Engineering Department offers Marine Transportation Systems Engineering master degree pogramme under Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.
