General Description

History

The Department of Business Administration was founded in 1988 within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Later in 1992, the Department became the pioneering unit under the newly established Faculty of Business. The fields in the Department are, Management and Organization, Production Management and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Commercial Law, Quantative Methods and Management Information Systems. With such field composition, the department provides a diverse background that is necessary for success in the area of business. The department has experienced, qualified and dedicated members including the founders of the Faculty. The medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, placement through a national-wide Student Selection Examination, DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test (Minimum 65) or TOEFL-IBT (minimum 72) or equivalent.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

General frame for recognition of prior learning is arranged in Dokuz Eylul University Educational and Examinational Regulation of Pre-Graduate and Undergraduate Degree through the articles 11-12-13-14. Details are explained in DEU Faculty of Business Educational and Examinational Regulations based on the regulation of the DEU. Detailed information can be accessed at the Faculty website.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The Bachelors Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.) of 2.00/4.00 and 240 ECTS. Regulations arrange the details of the requirements:

Profile of the Programme

The Business Administration Department is founded in 1988 under Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. After the foundation of Faculty of Business in 1992, Business Administration Department relocated and took its place in the Faculty as the first department. The language of the education is 100% English since foundation.

Department members continously improve themselves and do research at Management and Organization, Production Management and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Commercial Law and Quantative Methods and Management Information Systems fields. In addition, Department of Business Administration focuses on analytical competencies, critical thinking, communication and problem solving while instructing students. This also includes case analysis, discussions and group presentations. Excellent opportunites for employment are available to the business administration graduates. The academic staff and students are supported for international collaboration with other universities in order to raise their international profile. The Department also encourages its staff to manage national and international research activities and projects witihin the scope of university-industry collaboration. The Department has 35 academics in total. Students studying in the Business Administration undergraduate program may receive a major offered by the program fulfilling the requirements which are in line with career options in national and international firms. Majors offered by the DEU Business Administration undergraduate program are Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Human Resources Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Production and Operations Management. In order to declare a major in one of these areas of specializations, in addition to compulsory courses, students must select and fulfill the requirements of at least six major elective courses below delineated for the major. Majors received will be affirmed in diploma supplements. Student can not declare to receive more than one major.

Key Learning Outcomes

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students of Business Administration Department are mostly (almost 90% of them) offered job in their last semester in the school. The options can vary from financial auditing companies, banks, consulting firms to hospitality management positions. Besides from the private sector companies they are also eligible for careers in public sector e.g. Ministries.

In order to meet international standards, four course categories have been defined in the undergraduate program of Business Administration. Faculty Core Courses (23%): Calculus, Statistics, Fundamentals of Information Technology, Sociology, Social Psychology, Career Planning and Introduction to Law that aim to support core courses of the profession. Integrated Language Skills, Advanced Writing Skills, Communication Skills, and Volunteerism Studies that aim to develop transferable skills. Departmental Core Courses (46%): These are the fundamental courses of the profession. Departmental Electives (23%): Courses aiming to extend education in accordance with the students relevant area of interest. Unrestricted Electives (8%): Courses aiming at providing the students a broad flexibility for individual development and career choices. These courses also seek to enrich the students perspective and intellectual level.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Business Educational and Examinational Regulations (http://isletme.deu.edu.tr/kurumsal/ana-menu-ogrenciler/deu-isletme-fakultesi-sinav-ve-uygulama-esaslari). The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is DD. Other grades; Incomplete (I) accorded to students who, although otherwise successful, have failed to complete the required assignments for a course. A student receiving an incomplete grade for any course must make up for the deficiencies within 30 days after submitting the grades to Registrars Office. Otherwise, the grade I automatically becomes FF. Satisfactory (S) accorded to students who are successful in non-credit courses. Unsatisfactory (U) accorded to students who are unsuccessful in non-credit courses. Exempt ( E) is given to students who transfer to the program from another, after the equivanlence of courses they have taken previously is recommended by the dean/director and approved by the faculty board. This grade may provide an exemption for a particular course at the program.
No Attendance (NA) is given upon failure to attend classes or complete practical or applied components of a course. (NA) configures in CGPA as FF.

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelors Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minnimum Cumulative. Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS.
