Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

1. Measurement and evaluation methods, types of exams and their contribution to the course grade are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
2. Different methods such as homework, project, application, midterm and final exam are used in measurement and evaluation.
3. Letter and/or numeric grading systems are used to evaluate student achievement.
In units that apply the relative evaluation system, a student's success grade in a course is determined according to the success level of the class by evaluating the level of success in the semester studies of that course and the grade obtained in the end-of-semester / end-of-year or make-up exam together. This relative evaluation is made by the instructor who teaches the course, taking into account the statistical distribution of the grades and the class average. At the end of the relative evaluation, each student is given a success grade expressed in letters indicating the degree of success by the instructor who teaches the course.
(2) A student who receives one of the grades AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, DC, DD from a course is considered to have succeeded in that course.
(3) In addition; Y (Unsatisfactory), B (Successful), M (Exempt) grades are grades that do not participate in the average and D (Absent), E (Incomplete) grades are temporary grades;
a) The grade of D is given to students who fail to fulfill their attendance obligations or the conditions related to the course practices and cannot obtain the right to take the exam and is treated as an FF grade in the grade point average calculation.
b) Grade B is given to students who are successful in courses that are not included in their grade point averages.
c) Y grade is given to students who fail the courses that are not included in the grade point averages.
ç) Grade E is given to students who are successful in the semester but fail to complete the requirements for the course. (Change sentence: RG-16/04/2018-30393) If a student receives a grade E in a course, he/she must complete the deficiencies within one month from the date the grades are announced and get a grade. Otherwise, the grade of E becomes a grade of FF.
d) The grade of M is given for the courses that the student has taken before and whose equivalence is accepted and counted to the minimum course load, and for the courses exempted by the decision of the relevant unit board of directors upon the recommendation of the relevant faculty dean's office or school directorate.
(4) In units that apply the absolute evaluation system; in order for a student to be considered successful in a course, the student must have received at least 50 out of 100 in the final or make-up exam of that course and the success grade calculated according to subparagraph (a) of the first paragraph of Article 27 of this Regulation must be at least 50 out of 100.
Success grade and evaluation of success level
The student's success grade in a course or semester is the grade that will be taken as basis in determining whether the student has succeeded in that course or semester and in determining the diploma degree. The principles regarding the evaluation of the success grade and success level are as follows:
a) Attendance to the courses is compulsory, and the success grade of a course is determined by taking the contribution of the student's semester or year grade and the grades obtained from the end-of-semester / year-end or make-up exam at the rates determined in the application principles of the relevant units and converting the number obtained to the nearest integer.
b) The list of students who do not fulfill the conditions to take the end-of-semester/end-of-year and make-up exams of a course is announced by the instructor in the last week of the semester or year. These students receive a grade of D in this course.
