Course Objective

Objectives of this course are to teach students the details of defense types (the most preferred defense types by the teams in present-day basketball) and offense principles against them in theory and in practice. To teach students principles of player selection, performance testing and how to write down stats.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being capable of write down the stats during a game and interpreting them.
2   Mastering the principles of player selection and basketball specific performance testing.
3   Mastering and teaching the defense types and their general principals.
4   Mastering and teaching the offense principles against the defense types.
5   Mastering and teaching the implementations of baseline and sideline inbounds plays against different types of defenses.

1 Write down statistics and interpreting
2 Principles of player selection and basketball specific physical performance tests, team defense types and their general principles
3 General principles of offense according to the defense types
4 Man to man defense and offense examples
5 2-1-2 zone, 2-3 zone, 3-2 zone defenses and offense examples
6 1-2-2 zone, 1-3-1 zone defenses and offense examples
7 Match-up zone defense and offense examples
8 midterm exam
9 1 and box, 1 and diamond defenses and offense examples
10 2 and triangle, 2 and inverted triangle defenses and offense examples
11 1-3 and a chaser, 3-1 and a chaser defenses and offense examples
12 Baseline inbounds plays against different types of defenses
13 Sideline inbounds plays against different types of defenses
14 final exam
