Course Objective

Objectives of this course are to make the students master the history of basketball; court, equipment knowledge and game rules; to teach them basics moves of basketball with and without ball; to make them be able to correct the mistakes and to make them be able to prepare unit training programs for young players taking place in learning and development levels via the guidance of training science.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Mastering the history and development of basketball in world and in Türkiye
2   Gaining court, equipment knowledge and game rules; explaining the basic rules of basketball.
3   Preparing the educational games for young players taking place in beginners level and make the students make the young players execute these games
4   Understanding the importance of basic moves without ball in basketball, and teaching and executing these moves
5   Mastering the importance of basic moves with ball that will be executed by beginner level young players.
6   Executing the ball holds and understanding the progressive teaching of ball holds.
7   Executing the passes with one and two hands and understanding the progressive teaching of these passes.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 History of basketball; the origin and development of world basketball.
2 Origin and development of basketball in Türkiye. Court and equipment knowledge of basketball.
3 Game rules of international basketball
4 With-without the ball basic stance
5 Change-ups (crossover, behind the back, between the legs, reverse)
6 Stride and two-count stops with and without balls ball holds.
7 Side-steps, jumps, pass delivery and pass reception.
8 Midterm exam
9 Passes with two hands. Chest pass and over head pass.
10 Fakes without ball. Bounce pass.
11 Back pick and front pick, off-the dribble pass
12 Side screen, passes with one hand
13 Baseball pass with one hand, hook pass.
14 Final exam
