General Description

History

A conservatory is defined as A vocational school aimed to grow creative, innovative and unique artists for the art centers via universal art education on music and performing arts to the talented youngsters. based on the needs of our nation.
Our conservatory was established in 1954 and named Izmir School of Music.
Back at the time, the programs were limited to piano, violin and voice education, specifically designed for the middle and high school students. Also, solfege and harmony classes were given as well.
In 1958, Izmir School of Music was expanded into a Conservatory by the state and five students were selected via several auditions for the following year. On December 26th, 1958, Izmir State Conservatory was officially opened.
Almost over 40 years later, Ministry of Education decided to open Dokuz EylulUnivesity, State Conservatory, Music and Ballet Elementry School and Dokuz Eylul Univesity, State Conservatory,Music and Performing Arts High School, based on the law passed on October 8th, 2010.
In over 50 years, many young artists graduated from Dokuz Eylul University, State Conservatory. These highly respected and recognized artists still perform in many art centers, orchestras, opera houses and even art schools all over the world and represent our nation with outstanding achievements. It is our ultimate goal to teach many more qualified artists for our nation.

Specific Admission Requirements

For students whom graduated from conservatories high school : Conservatory High school diploma, a specialized talent (qualification) examination required for the field.
For students whom graduated other than from conservatories high school: High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student selection examination and a specialized talent (qualification) examination required for the field.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management
The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.
According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester. The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have 240 ECTS.

Profile of the Programme

The students who study the Branch of Opera at the Department of Performing Arts strengthen their substructure by taking theoric courses like solfegge, opera history, musical forms and harmony as well as basic voice training and acting techniques,interpretation of various works of opera, oratorio and song repertoire of different languages, composers and periods. They also take performance courses like choir, stage make-up, fencing, historical and contemporary dances. All of these are the requirements of being an international opera artist. Their education is supported by the masterclasses and workshops given by professional artists.

7   May know and evaluate the interaction of the sub-disciplines of music art.

9   May work alone, independent and in groups with harmonious and productive.
10   May monitor the knowledge in the field and communicate with colleagues by using a foreign language.
11   May have knowledge about soft ware which is widely adopted in the field and with it, has knowledge about information and communication Technologies and may be active in decision-making of them
12   Can transfer the subjects in the field of music efficiently and accurately to people who are or are not specialist by using visual, written and oral methods.
13   May objectify the sensory preception.
14   Can develope the ability of multi-dimensional perceive,to think, to design and to apply.
15   Can show the communication skills to explain his works to society.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession in the public or private institutions. Graduates of opera program can be employed in national and international opera houses as soloists or choir members. They can sing as freelance solo singers in Symphonic orchestras, chamber music groups and chamber orchestras. They can be employed either in private or public choirs as well. They can also find a position in academic institutions as lecturers and make further academic studies.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Measurement and evaluation methods for each course are defined in the course syllabi prepared by the instructor/s. Exam and passings grades are regulated according to the rules and regulatons of Dokuz Eylul University, State Conservatory undergraduate programs as indicated in their catalogs.

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelor's Degree awarded to students who have succesfully completed all courses in the curriculum, Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 50 / 100 , have got no failling grades. And have minimum 240 ECTS.
