General Description

History

The Department of Sports Management was established in 2019 within our Faculty in order to train competent sports managers in the field and will start training with a total of 30 students in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Specific Admission Requirements

In order to be accepted to this program, it is necessary to complete a high school or equivalent education, to have a diploma and to get enough points in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Students are admitted to the program only according to the score type and principles determined by the Higher Education Council for the year 2021-2022, based on the letter of the YÖK Presidency dated 21.01.2021 and numbered E-75850160-301.01.01-4682. In order to be admitted to the program in the following years, it is necessary to complete a high school or equivalent education, to have a diploma, to get enough points in the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), and to get enough points from the special talent exam to be held by the faculty. Foreign students are accepted within the framework of the success criteria determined by the Council of Higher Education and the Senate.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students studying in this program must have a GPA of at least 2 out of 4 and be successful in all courses prescribed in the curriculum in order to graduate.

Profile of the Programme

With the opening of the Sports Management Department in Dokuz Eylül University, Necat Hepkon Faculty of Sports Sciences, the important needs of both our region and our country will be met. In addition to the needs of the sectors and clubs, it will contribute to the training of individuals to be employed in the Turkish-Sports organization. Every year, our country's sports policies are expanding and being updated. Therefore, our success in every field of sports is also increasing. In this growing and developing field, the need for specialists trained in the sports management department has increased. Our students who will graduate from the Department of Sports Management will be able to contribute to increasing the success of the Turkish-Sports organization as they will receive training on both sports culture and the scientific foundations of sports.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   It trains sports managers who are equipped with professional knowledge in the field of sports management and have the ability to apply this knowledge on issues related to the management of sports-related organizations/institutions and events, as well as on other disciplines.
2   Analyze the components of national and international sports systems and sports policies.
3   Takes responsibility as a team and project member in sports institutions/events and leads the activities related to sports management functionally and tactically.
4   Evaluates the performance of the people he works with in the field of sports management by improving their professional knowledge and skills.
5   Produces alternative ideas for organizational effectiveness and efficiency by analyzing sports organizations in managerial and environmental terms by using education and information technologies.
6   Specializes in sports management, budget and finance management, human relations, human resources, sports tourism and marketing strategies.
7   Critically evaluate and analyze current events in the field of Sports Management.
8   In sports organizations; develops professional experience by organizing in-service training programs in order to adapt human resources to rapidly changing environmental conditions.
9   He/she plans and carries out projects and researches using appropriate research methods on subjects related to his/her field, and presents the results in a clear and understandable way.
10   He has the ability to adapt his knowledge in directing disabled individuals to sports to new situations.
11   It educates sports managers who have adopted the philosophy of universal human rights and olympism, adhere to ethical values within the scope of the Olympic movement and fair-play concepts, and take care of nature and the environment.
12   Learns legal issues related to sports organizations, sports organizations, sports events and sports real persons within the scope of law and sports law.
13   Examine the public institutions and organizations that organize and run national and international sports organizations in terms of structure, task and process and write comprehensive reports.
14   Communicates with national and international sports managers within the scope of the basic fields of sports management, and has the ability to prepare and implement projects with individuals and institutions in this context.
15   To be able to comprehend the relationship between psychomotor, physical and physiological development of the human body, learning the basic principles of athlete nutrition and sportive activities, and the developmental stages of people of all ages, genders and levels.
16   Students will be able to acquire the necessary skills in individual and team sports, game rules, technical and tactical information, basic and advanced learning, and the ability to make and implement a training plan and program specific to different sports branches.
17   Adopts the philosophy of total quality management; applies in the field.
18   Manages the administrative and financial processes of sports organizations.
19   Manages the marketing and sponsorship practices in sports clubs, businesses and organizations.
20   Interprets the economic developments in the Sports Industry and uses them in the managerial decision-making process.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The employment areas of our graduates can be specified as the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the General Directorate of Sports, as well as sports federations, sports clubs and fitness centers and all businesses that produce sports services and products.

Access to Further Studies

They can apply to second or third cycle programs.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In the curriculum of the Department of Sport Management , there are compulsory courses that students are required to take and elective courses that they can choose within the framework of the subjects they are interested in. The courses in the programme are offered in semesters and there are no preconditions for courses. There must be minimum 10 students to open an elective course.
