: TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

General Description

History

Accounting and Taxation Programme was established within İzmir Vocational School in 1982 and is located in Buca Education Faculty Campus. It offers a period of two years of education after high school. Programme is structured as to provide both formal and evening education. It has quota of 180 students per year (90 for formal education and 90 for evening education). Students are selected among graduates of related vocational schools without any exam and also among the students who took the Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) according to their scores.

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) .
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing.

Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 30 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

Tourism and Hospitality Management Program/Associate Degree train individuals who are entrepreneurs, having professional skill and good communication skill, using computer programs related to the field via theoretical and practice education. In accordance with this purpose, it provides them with background information and fits for professional life. On the purpose of supporting the taught information, 30days practical training is compulsory. The department graduates have the opportunity for vertical transfer to the formal or distance education programs according to the related regulation provisions.

1   The graduate can explain facts, concepts, theories and development stages of tourism and hospitality management.
2   The graduate can use contemporary equipments that are needed at the profession.
3   The graduate comprehends fundamentally the laws and regulations peculiar to tourism sector.
4   The graduate knows fundamentally and applies the occupational standards peculiar to tourism sector.
5   The graduate knows and uses information on planning, development, diversification and pricing concerning tourism products.
6   The graduate knows and uses the required information on organization, management and meeting the profitability need of the accommodation, travel and food and beverage businesses.
7   graduate knows the fundamental information about tourism supply, tourism demand and tourism economics and the graduate can analyze them.
8   The graduate can use the information on business management together with the techniques of tourism and hotel management, offer alternative solutions, cooperate with the partners and play a role in solution teams
9   The graduate can define, develop and analyze the processes of tourism services.
10   The graduate can keep up, interpret and internalize the current information regarding tourism and hotel management and keep on lifelong learning by improving his or her skills.
11   The graduate can communicate verbally and in writing both in Turkish and in English at the required level of the profession.
12   The graduate can keep abreast of information on hotel and hospitality management in English at A2 level referring to European Language Portfolio.
13   The graduate can use automation programs and the other related information
14   The graduate uses information management patterns and makes good use of information maxsimum by reducing the cost of getting information.
15   The graduate has initiative and can be innovative and creative when following his profession.
16   The graduate acts in accordance with social, cultural, scientific, ethical values in all types of activities related his profession.
17   The graduate has social responsibility, he can design projects and organize activities.
18   The graduate can design and direct a complex, contemporary and professional project and can take responsibility for making a decision.

The graduates are employed accommodation, travel and foodbeverage operations and related public establishments.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the program have the opportunity to transfer to under graduate programs of related fields and get a fouryear bachelor's degree. Vertical transfer is possible upon success in Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Courses are divided into two groups as compulsory and elective. Students can take 30 ECTS elective courses each semester. The program consists of 120 ECTS in total. In addition to theoretical courses, they have the chance to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in applied courses.
