Culture and Sports
While Dokuz Eylül University aims to bring a creative, entrepreneurial
and versatile thinking higher education youth to our country and the world with
its understanding of quality education, it has structured the Culture and
Sports Branch Directorate of the Department of Health, Culture and Sports for
their participation in social, cultural, artistic and sports activities.
The unit aims to support the social, cultural
and sportive development of students by planning activities within the
framework of their fields.
Folk Dance Festival, Interuniversity Dance
Festival, International Capoeira Festival are organized by the student
communities. Our student organizations host major events throughout the year.
The Rectorate and university units also organize many cultural and artistic
events, conferences and seminars throughout the year.
There are 5 indoor
sports halls, 1 football field, 2 outdoor tennis courts, 3 indoor dance halls
and 3 fitness centers within the university campuses. In addition to being used within the scope of the course programs, the
sports facilities can be used by students and members of the university outside
the course programs and during lunch breaks.
Next to the Tınaztepe
Campus Sports Hall, the "Football Field with Synthetic Athletics
Track", built on an area of 22,737 m², serves.
Within the scope of sports activities, the
Rectorate Cup is organized every year in basketball,
football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and chess branches. In order for
the students of our university to participate in sports competitions organized
outside our university, the necessary licensing procedures are
carried out by the Department of Health, Culture and Sports.
Amphitheater
The Amphitheater, which serves under the
Department of Health, Culture and Sports, is located in Tınaztepe
Campus. Built on an area of 22,000 m², with a building and facility area of
5,000 m², a capacity of 5,050 spectators, a parking area with a capacity of 257
vehicles, 4 backstages and bathrooms, each with an
area of 39 m², it hosts various concerts and spring festivals, especially the
graduation ceremonies of our University.
Student Training and Recreation Facilities
Seferihisar Student Education and Recreation
Facilities provide daily and accommodation services in Seferihisar
Doğanbey Payamlı
in order to ensure that rest, entertainment and learning activities take place
together.
The facility has a capacity of 133 beds in 65
double and 3 single disabled rooms. Bathroom-toilet, shower, air conditioning,
24 hot water facilities are standard in the rooms and breakfast and dinner
services are provided. The facility has a conference hall for 200 people,
internet cafe, TV lounge, cafeteria, disco, amphitheater, beach and beach bar.
Inciraltı Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool
İnciraltı Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, which serves within the Department of Health, Culture and Sports of our university, has 5 lanes; 25 m. length, 12.5 m. width and 2 m. depth. Tınaztepe Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, which
serves within the Health, Culture and Sports Department of our university, has
6 lanes; 25 m. length, 12.5 m. width and 2.25 m. depth. Students of our
university can benefit from our swimming pool during the specified hours by
fulfilling the necessary conditions and registering.
Seferihisar Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool
Seferihisar Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, which
serves within the Health, Culture and Sports Department of our university, has 6 lanes; It has 25 m. length, 12.5 m. width and 2 m. depth.
Students of our university can benefit from our swimming pool during the
specified hours by fulfilling the necessary conditions and registering.
Sinan Şamil Sam Fitness Center
Opened in 2024, our gym, named after the
Turkish National Athlete Sinan Şamil Sam, the
World Intercontinental Heavyweight Boxing Champion, provides quality service to
all our students with fully equipped fitness equipment and sports experts
accompanied by our staff.
Sabancı Cultural Center
Sabancı Cultural Center was
built on a land allocated by the university with the contributions of
the Sabancı Foundation and the cooperation of
the Governorship of Izmir and the Rectorate of Dokuz Eylül University. Sabancı
Cultural Center was constructed as a single block with
two main sections in a 5000 m² closed area and currently serves under the
Department of Health, Culture and Sports.
The first section is the Hasan Tahsin Hall,
which seats 548 people. With its stage where the most advanced techniques are
applied and its large foyer, it can accommodate all kinds of cultural and
artistic performances such as theater, opera, ballet, concerts and exhibitions.
It has a retractable orchestra pit, 250 m² stage area and 12x16 m² stage
dimensions. With a freight elevator connected to the stage and a 6x8 m² cinevision screen, it has
all the facilities for presentations ranging from musicals to shows with giant
casts.
The second section is the Captain Şerafettin Hall, which seats 138 people. This hall has
a 75 m² stage area, acoustic architecture and impressive lighting equipment.
For the ballet department of the Conservatory,
there are special classrooms, study rooms, 4 ballet
studios, administration and lecturer rooms. There is a board in each studio.
Sabancı Culture Palace provides
conservatory students with the best and most modern conditions for their
education. The third and fourth floor foyers, in addition to the entrance
foyer, are used for exhibitions. It is also equipped
to host all cultural and artistic events held in Izmir, plays of famous theater
groups, various panels, concerts and special events.
Museum of Flagology and Turkish Flags
Dokuz Eylul University
Museum of Flagology and Turkish Flags, Turkey's first and only national flag museum, was opened on
September 9, 2020, the liberation day of Izmir.
The flags and symbols of Turkish states and
world civilizations, including rare pieces from the collection of donor Mr. Halûk PERK, are exhibited in four separate halls in the
museum, which started to serve in the historical Eylül
Köşk located in Dokuzçeşmeler
Campus of our university.
Within the museum, there is also an
archive section to record and preserve the past and a children's workshop that
will allow children to spend time in the museum. Our museum is open to the public free of
charge and can be visited with a guide by making an
appointment for group trips.
