Students enrolled in Dokuz Eylül University's undergraduate or graduate programs with a compulsory preparatory class, must take the foreign language exemption exam held by the School of Foreign Languages at the beginning of the academic year before starting their education. Students who score at least 65 out of 100 in the exemption exam (at least 75 points for students of the English Language Teacher Education, English Translation And Interpreting and American Culture and Literature Departments) are exempted from the compulsory preparatory class and begin their education in the programs they are enrolled in.
Students who get at least 60 points from the central foreign language exam conducted by ÖSYM (at least 70 points from the central foreign language exam conducted by ÖSYM for the students of English Language Teacher Education, English Translation And Interpreting and American Culture and Literature Departments) or an equivalent score from the national and international foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by the ÖSYM Board of Directors are exempted from the foreign language exemption exam.
