General Description

History

In the academic year 1991-1992 at Dokuz Eylul University, Health Servicesand vokational school has started training program within the medical laboratory.
The purpose of Medical Laboratory Techniques Program, the main clinical biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, molecular biology and genetics laboratories to train qualified people to do chemical analysis.
Medical laboratory technician training time in the program, students are intensive training in basic medical sciences. Vocational courses as biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, laboratory methods and calculations, pathology, genetics, hematology, endocrine, as well as courses in anatomy, physiology, ethics, foreign language, Turkish language lessons are given and the principles of Ataturk, 2 period, the majority of Dokuz Eylul University Hospital Central Laboratory and Blood are given practical training in the center. Students 1 basic English while studying in the classroom years of professional mainly studying English. Students will adhere to the rules of medical ethics and deontological, in all conditions, at all times respect the rights of patients to carry out the task as people with mental and physical structure are grown. At the end of the first year, our students do their 6-week intership in hospital laboratories.
Professional practice and internships in the program by completing all of the graduates of the program with Title Medical Laboratory Technician forms. Medical laboratory technicians work management specialist laboratories and science, techniques, make the appropriate tests and analyzes.
Learning activities required by the program, employment opportunities, and planning, Ministry of Health, Health Departments, public and private health institutions (hospitals, clinics, outpatient clinics and laboratories, medical centers, sanitation centers, dispensaries, health centers, community health centers, family medicine, etc.) municipalities, in cooperation with non-governmental organizations and professional associations are made.
Students who graduate from our program Biology, Nursing and Health Care sections can undergraduate education by making vertical transmission.

Specific Admission Requirements

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students take courses in the same program at another university credits, the program continued with the approval of the recommendation of the Directorate and the Health Services Vocational College are accepted as credits counted towards the program.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from the program are defined curriculum, professional for 90 ECTS compulsory courses and internships, for a total of 30 ECTS of elective courses must be taken and the ECTS must complete 120. Courses in grade 60 and above. Attendance is mandatory, 70% of theoretical courses, practical courses must attend 80%. Pre-requisite courses that are defined curriculum, which is a prerequisite for the course or courses must be achieved more.

Profile of the Programme

The primary aim of the Medical Laboratory Technics Program is bringing technicians up who can make an analysis in clinical biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, molecular biology and genetic laboratories.
In the program, physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, general biochemistry, medical, basic medical sciences, such as biology and genetics of the courses as well as courses in general education are included. Vocational courses in chemistry and the application as a laboratory equipment, laboratory safety, quality and accreditation in health, parasitology, hematology, medical microbiology, pathology, hormone biochemistry, basic laboratory applications, molecular biology methods, immunological methods, and case analysis of the lessons. Elective courses in the curriculum of professional development, and social and cultural development is supported. At the end of first year, 6, week they do theirintership at DEU hospital or other hospitals approved theprogram directors(Medical Faculty Hospital,State hospitals, Private hospitals) under the supervision of a medical Laboratory specialist. Students are trained as indivuduals who are strctly adhering tomedical ethics and deontological rules, respectful of patient rights, knowling the quality standards in health and able to fulfill the task given at any time and under any condition.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Have the definitions, terms, settlements, contiguities and operations knowledge of core structure, organ and systems of human body.
2   Have the knowledge of rules that should be followed in laboratory and laboratory security. Has the ability to identify the risks in laboratory and take precautions against them. Has the ability to create secure laboratory environment.
3   Have the knowledge of environmental health and waste management in medical laboratory implementations. Has the ability to apply required precautions.
4   Have the knowledge about operation and management of laboratory and ability to run implementations.
5   Have the knowledge about devices, tools and materials that are used in laboratory.
6   Have the knowledge about taking and transferring patterns for medical laboratory tests and ability to apply criteria of pattern acceptation and deny; also ability to make basic tests.
7   Have ability to prepare samples before tests; preparing slide; using microscope; making microbiological culture.
8   Have the knowledge of laboratory chemistry and calculation; ability to prepare analysis solution.
9   Have the knowledge of sterilization disinfection and ability to applying them.
10   Have the knowledge of the relationship between body functions, system, structure and medical laboratory tests. Has the ability to relate these results with microbial factors.
11   Have the ability to correct errors during which may be appear during medical laboratory tests.
12   Have the ability to use information technologies and conduct quality management processes.
13   To communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and the ability of teamwork
14   Intermediate level of a foreign language the ability to use the knowledge and professional applications
15   Scientific and technological developments and be open to learning
16   Knowledge about patient rights, ethical and moral concepts, knowledge of the rules of professional ethics and the ability to apply
17   Knowledge and skills in the profession will be the best way to reach the goal will be equipped to acquire and provide professional development.
18   The best way to implement the profession, the personal and the social and cultural knowledge that will contribute to the development of society intends to be.

ÖSYM our graduates can apply if they are successful in Vertical Jump Test Biology, Nursing, Nursing and Health Care sections can undergraduate education by making vertical transmission.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Courses, student assessment, course specified forms of promotion rates, course credit in accordance with the theory, application, or both in theory and practice two mid-term exams, homework and assessment course and the course is responsible for the choice. 1 final examination. Final exam for students who fail the supplementary examination. End of term exams and make-up course assignments specified forms of identification may be considered as well. In order to be successful in this course must have a grade of at least 60 is required.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must successfully complete 120 ECTS credits for courses and internships. Course passing system is being implemented in each of the students to be successful in a course grade point average of at least 60 out of 100 is required to provide the final grade. One course exam grade is 50.
