General Description

History

Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Leather Department's Textile Technology Program was first established in 1994 with the support of Aegean Apparel and Apparel Exporters' Association under the name of Ready-to-Wear Program. It is a 2-year program consisting of 14 weeks and 4 semesters. In this 2-year program, theoretical lectures, workshop practices and industry-based teaching are offered. Textile Technology Program is designed to teach the students the basic concepts of textiles and ready-to-wear, as well as to develop handicrafts in industry and workshop applications.

The program aims to meet the needs of the intermediaries of the industry today and in the future. Based on the textile, fashion and technological developments of our era, we have acquired professional qualifications needed for Textile, Ready-to-Wear and Fashion sector and train qualified professionals.

With the training program; it is aimed to enable students to develop their knowledge and abilities to offer creative, contemporary, original textile and fashion design products blended with form, color, material, structure, function and design relationships.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school graduates can register for the program by getting enough points from the "Transition to Higher Education" examination administered by the "Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM)".

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylül University Senate.

The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates is done by the school evaluation commission and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by The Transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legislation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK).

The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors.

Students' previous university's courses will be considered as elective or compulsory courses if they participate in the exchange program.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

Production-oriented application courses are carried out in Textile Technology Workshop at C Block, which has been renovated in 2016/2017 Academic year, the theoretical courses are held at C, B and D Block classrooms, design and drawing courses are held in the drawing classrooms.

Students complete their application courses with the EDÖ - Industry Based Internship for 8 weeks (40 Business Days) in Grade 2.

Formal education in Textile Technology Program is given in Turkish. In our program, technical visits, career days and various events organized under the festival of universities, exhibitions, fashion shows and similar academic and artistic activities are organized.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Has the ability to use theoretical and practical knowledge in textile field.
2   He / She selects and applies appropriate analytical methods and modeling techniques by using the skills of identifying, defining, formulating and solving clothing production problems.
3   Has the ability to analyze a model, system or production process and to design under realistic constraints to meet the desired requirements and to apply modern design methods accordingly.
4   Has the ability to choose and use the modern techniques and tools required for clothing production applications.
5   Has the ability to use the tools used in the workshop with a sense of responsibility.
6   Has the ability to design, produce, analyze and interpret data.
7   Has the ability to participate in individual and multidisciplinary group activities effectively and to take responsibility.
8   To be able to access information and to do resource research for this purpose, has the ability to use data-based and other information sources.
9   Has knowledge about entrepreneurship and innovation issues and the problems of the era.
10   To be able to communicate effectively in Turkish orally and in writing.
11   Have professional and ethical responsibility.
12   Has sufficient knowledge about project management, workplace applications, environment and work safety.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduated students who have the ability to manufacture their own work place, which can be employed as a master instructor in organized and widespread secondary education institutions, as manager assistant or technician in textile, garment production technology manufacturing enterprises.

Access to Further Studies

According to the "Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Open Education Associate Degree Programs' and Vocational Schools' Graduates", the Vocational School Graduates, who wish to continue to the Undergraduate Degree, may register to the relevant departments by entering and succeeding the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).

Graduate students may apply to Bachelors programmes to the relevant fields of study such as; Fashion Apparel Design, Fashion Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Textile, Textile Engineering, Textile Design, Textile and Fashion Design.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

All the courses in the program are Semester based. There is no prerequisite for courses. The student takes 8 weeks (40 working days) of industry-based training in the second year in the following areas; women's, men's, children's inner and outer wear; pre-production planning and fashion design, textile pattern design, pattern cutting, quality control and production phases and in other fields of Textile Sector.
