Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain information about the fundamentals of the yarn spinning, yarn quality parameters, short and long staple - conventional and modern spinning systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To be able to understand the fundamentals of the yarn spinning.
2   2. To be able to learn the yarn quality parameters (unevennness, elongation, strength etc.)
3   3. To be able to understand cotton yarn production systems.
4   4. To be able to understand wool yarn production systems.
5   5. To be able to calculate yarn spinning parameters.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 1. History of the yarn spinning, classification of the yarns.
2 2. Raw material properties in terms of spinning. Short fiber yarn production systems.
3 3. Combed cotton and Carded yarn production system.
4 4. Blowroom, comber room and machine.
5 5. Draw frame processes, roving preparation, ring yarn production system, winding.
6 6. Comber and process flow.
7 7. Mid-Term Exam
8 8. Mid-Term Exam
9 9. Definition of long staple spinning systems and their principles. Worsted and carded wool yarn.
10 10. Silk yarn spinning.
11 11. Synthetic yarn production technology, filament spinning.
12 12. Textured yarn technology.
13 13. Modern spinning systems. Open-end systems, Air- jet systems, Fancy yarn methods.
14 14. Yarn numbering systems, numbering of multi folded yarns, yarn conversion equations.
15 15. Yarn quality control (yarn quality parameters)
16 16. Final Exam
