Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain theoretical and practical information about weaving preparation processes, the production techniques of woven fabric, basic woven structures, the faults in woven fabrics and the solutions of these faults.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

Course Contents

Week Subject Description 1 Introduction to woven fabric structure and terminology in weaving, examining yarn properties which affect on the woven fabric 2 Classification of weaving preparation processes, winding, folding-twisting, warping 3 Sizing, drawing-in, transferring of weft and knotting 4 Introduction to weaving machine, basic and auxiliary motions of a weaving loom 5 Weaving machines according to shedding mechanisms 6 Weaving machines according to weft insertion mechanisms 7 Mid-Term Exam 8 Mid-Term Exam 9 Weaving calculations 10 Weaving calculations 11 Basic and derivative weaves, representation of weaves on a graph paper 12 Drawing-in and dobby plans, colour effect 13 A sample study for basic weave analysis and production calculations 14 Quality control of woven fabrics 15 Final Exam
