Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain theoretical and practical information about weaving preparation processes, the production techniques of woven fabric, basic woven structures, the faults in woven fabrics and the solutions of these faults.

1   To be able to understand the weaving preparation processes and the machines used during these processes
2   To be able to explain the production techniques of the woven fabric
3   To be able to classify the weaving machines
4   To be able to plan the weaving production
5   To be able to identify the basic woven structures and their properties
6   To be able to describe the faults of woven fabrics and the causes of faults

Course Contents

1 Introduction to woven fabric structure and terminology in weaving, examining yarn properties which affect on the woven fabric
2 Classification of weaving preparation processes, winding, folding-twisting, warping
3 Sizing, drawing-in, transferring of weft and knotting
4 Introduction to weaving machine, basic and auxiliary motions of a weaving loom
5 Weaving machines according to shedding mechanisms
6 Weaving machines according to weft insertion mechanisms
7 Mid-Term Exam
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Weaving calculations
10 Weaving calculations
11 Basic and derivative weaves, representation of weaves on a graph paper
12 Drawing-in and dobby plans, colour effect
13 A sample study for basic weave analysis and production calculations
14 Quality control of woven fabrics
15 Final Exam
