General Description

History

Seferihisar Fevziye Hepkon Social Sciences Vocational School within body of Dokuz Eylül University has started education on associate degree level with Marina Management, Logistic and Tourism & Hotel Management Departments on November 3rd , 2010. Our school had its first graduates at 2012.

Our vocational school has been rapidly evolving and improving to meet the educational and training needs. As the result of our application, Higher Education Institution decided to discharge the vocational school and not to enroll new students in the 2016-2017 academic year. Upon graduation of present students, the school will be closed down.

In place of the vocational school that provided 2 years associate degree level education, Fevziye Hepkon School of Applied Sciences that provides 4 years graduated level education was established after the decision of the Council of Ministers, with number of 2015/7723 on May 2015. The decision was published in the Official Gazette on June 5th, 2015 (number: 29377).

Since 2016-2017 academic year, School of Applied Sciences has been providing bachelor's degree education with Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Department of Tourism and Hotel Management and Department of International Trade.

As of the 2020-2021 academic year, our school continues its education activities in the "Tınaztepe Campus" located in Buca under the name of "School of Applied Sciences".

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The Bachelors Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS and 40 day practical taining.

Profile of the Programme

Department of International Trade aims to provide students with necessary skills and knowledge about the concepts, theories and techniques of the basic disciplines of international trade and business. The liberalization of trade in global scale requires professional staff bearing necessary skills and knowledge international trade and business in developing countries such as Turkey. Then, International Trade Department is found to provide the needed staff for the international trade related sectors.

International Trade program is designed to provide students with necessary theoretical as well as the practical background to understand, explain, discuss and struggle the developments in the sectoral, national and international business environment and the situations confronted with in business life with the knowledge acquired about international trade and business. The Program mainly relies on courses combining the knowledge of different disciplines such as business administration, accounting and finance, production and marketing, international business, law, economics, international relations.

The program, also requires 40 working day practical training. Practical training is a period of time during which students work for a company or organization in order to get experience of a particular type of work. Benefits of students afforded by internship are putting into practice the theoretical knowledge, discovering skill areas and career fields, recognizing of work environments, getting work related experience, providing important job oppurtunities or references.

Additionally, students may apply exchange programs such as Farabi or Erasmus+. Farabi is an local student and academician exchange program for one or two semesters in Turkey Universities. The Erasmus+ Programme is a European student exchange program offering university students and academicians a possibility of studying in a European University for a period of at least 3 months and at maximum 12 months.

1   To understand and learn the concepts, theories and techniques of the basic disciplines of international trade and business.
2   To understand and learn national and international institutions and their functions regarding trade.
3   To be able to understand, explain and discuss the developments in the sectoral, national and international business environment and the situations confronted with in business life with the knowledge acquired about international trade and business.
4   To be able to carry out planning, organizing, implementing and supervising activities related to the production, marketing, accounting and finance functions of the enterprise.
5   To be able to evaluate and solve the risks and problems encountered in international trade and business activities based on principles of effectiveness and efficiency.
6   To be able to collect primary and secondary data regarding international trade and business and to evaluate and analyze these data with qualitative or quantitative methods.
7   To be able to evaluate and analyze developments in industry, national and international business environments with an interdisciplinary approach.
8   As a potential entrepreneur or employee, to be able to detect and take action on opportunities and threats related to industry, national and international business environment.
9   To be able to communicate orally and in writing in at least one foreign language.
10   To be able to use basic information technologies and systems (software, hardware, etc.) used in business life.
11   To be able to use communication and negotiate techniques effectively.
12   To be able to use concepts, theories and techniques related to basic disciplines in appropriate context.
13   As an entrepreneur or employee, to be able to struggle and take responsibility in conditions required by business life individually or as a team member.
14   To adopt the lifelong learning principle in personal and professional development, to be open to criticism and development.
15   To adopt and disseminate; ethical, equality and environmental values through understanding the historical, scientific, social, cultural and legal responsibilities in international trade and business-related activities.
16   To adopt responsible attitudes and behaviors through being aware of the national, regional and global problems (legal, environmental, cultural, social, ethical, etc.) that may be caused by international trade activities.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of International Trade Department have the opportunity to work in management positions in all types of firms operating at local or international level; foreign trade, banking and finance-related government agencies; municipal, regional and local trade agencies; chambers of commerce, free zones, economic development agencies, exporter unions etc.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

International Trade program consists of total 240 ECTS courses, compulsory courses (206 ECTS), elective courses (24 ECTS) and 40 day practical training (10 ECTS). There are no preconditions for courses. Students must select 2 elective courses per semester in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eight semesters. Students may start practical training after the fourth semester.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment methods for every course are defined in the course syllabus prepared by the relevant teaching staff and announced in the Information Package Course Catalog.
Assessment and grading of courses subject to
-The Regulation of Dokuz Eylul University on Education and Examination in Associate's and Bachelor's Degrees
-The Codes of Practice of Education and Examination in School of Applied Sciences
-The Practical Training Instruction of School of Applied Sciences
Also, students must meet cumulative GPA 1.80 to take a lesson from next year.
