General Description

History

The Department of Business Administration was founded in 1988 within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Later in 1992, the Department became the pioneering unit under the newly established Faculty of Business. The fields in the Department are, Management and Organization, Production Management and Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Commercial Law, Quantative Methods and Management Information Systems. With such field composition, the department provides a diverse background that is necessary for success in the area of business. The department has experienced, qualified and dedicated members including the founders of the Faculty. The medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination, DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test (minimum 70) or TOEFL - IBT (minimum 79) or equivalent.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years (excluding one year of English Preparatory School), 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Students enrolled in the Joint Programme will study the first two years in Dokuz Eylül University, and the last two years in the SUNY Albany University. In the initial two years of their study, the students are expected to take the main courses of the international relations programme of Dokuz Eylül University. In their third and fourth years, students take courses from the SUNY Albany University leading to the opportunity of receiving two bachelor degrees in a four years study period. The Joint Programme is aimed at giving the prospective students the opportunity of studying abroad. The instruction of language is English in both programmes.
Students will develop critical analytical skills through a wide variety of courses that allow them to explain, compare, and generalize about political phenomena in a broad range of countries, employing the key methodologies of the discipline. Courses are designed to inform, provoke, and inspire students to think critically about significant historical, political, economic and social issues in contemporary world politics. International Relations Department of Dokuz Eylül University offers prospective students the potential of diversifying their career options through the field of international relations. The objective is fostering excellence in education by integrating the benefits of studying in two prestigious Universities; Dokuz Eylül University and the SUNY Albany University within a joint programme. Our time call for new generation of leaders, educated about the dynamics of international relations and proficient in foreign languages as well as international affairs.
The language of instruction is English.

7   Being capable of taking individual responsibility, working effectively either alone or in a team by internalizing the skills of managing and leading individuals and teams.
8   Being capable of acquiring knowledge about widely accepted computer programs as well as the information and communication technology in their fields, and being capable of employing them effectively in decision making ( European Computer Driving Licence , Advanced Level).
9   Having mastery of the approaches, techniques, and continuous development applications regarding quality management system.
10   Being capable of having a holistic vision which will enable them to evaluate events comprehensively, set goals, and develop and implement strategies in order to realize these goals.
11   Being proficient in English at least at the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2 level.
12   Being able to communicate effectively with others (both written and orally).
13   Being effective in time management.
14   Internalizing the fundamental concepts of law; being capable of interpreting the relationship of businesses with their legal environment.
15   Acquiring entrepreneurial knowledge; being capable of taking risks; being creative and innovative.

In order to meet international standards, four course categories have been defined in the undergraduate program of Business Administration. Faculty Core Courses (22%): Calculus, Statistics, Fundamentals of Information Technology, Sociology, Social Psychology, Humanities, and Introduction to Law that aim to support core courses of the profession. Integrated Language Skills, Advanced Writing Skills, Communication Skills, and Social Responsibility Project that aim to develop transferable skills. Departmental Core Courses (44%): These are the fundamental courses of the profession. Departmental Electives (26%): Courses aiming to extend education in accordance with the students relevant area of interest. Unrestricted Electives (8%): Courses aiming at providing the students a broad flexibility for individual development and career choices. These courses also seek to enrich the students perspective and intellectual level.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Business Educational and Examinational Regulations (http://isletme.deu.edu.tr/kurumsal/ana-menu-ogrenciler/deu-isletme-fakultesi-sinav-ve-uygulama-esaslari).
The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is DD. Other grades; Incomplete (I) accorded to students who, although otherwise successful, have failed to complete the required assignments for a course. A student receiving an incomplete grade for any course must make up for the deficiencies within 30 days after submitting the grades to Registrars Office. Otherwise, the grade I automatically becomes FF. Satisfactory (S) accorded to students who are successful in non-credit courses. Unsatisfactory (U) accorded to students who are unsuccessful in non-credit courses. Exempt ( E) is given to students who transfer to the program from another, after the equivanlence of courses they have taken previously is recommended by the dean/director and approved by the faculty board. This grade may provide an exemption for a particular course at the program.
No Attendance (NA) is given upon failure to attend classes or complete practical or applied components of a course. (NA) configures in CGPA as FF.

Graduation Requirements

The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) 3.00/4.00 for diploma degree.
