General Description
History |
Department of American Culture and Literature started offering its MA program (with a thesis) in 1992 and its PhD program (with a thesis) in 1996. Language of instruction is English in all graduate courses. The MA and PhD curriculum is distinctively multidisciplinary, coming from diverse fields of study such as cultural studies, literature, history, philosophy, politics, economy, and international relations. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective. |

Profile of the Programme |
American Culture and Literature Department enables the students to make interdisciplinary connections among different cultures and literatures focusing mainly on the American social and cultural heritage. The program explores theoretical, analytical, and methodological approaches from various perspectives, including cultural studies, literature, history, and economy components. The goal of the program is to have students being able to synthesize and evaluate critically. |

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education. |
Graduation Requirements |
Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 51 ECTS), field study (6 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades. |
