DEGREE PROGRAMMES

History

Department of Basic Islamic Sciences includes seven sciences branch that are Hadith, Kalam, History of Islamic Sects, Islamic Mysticism, Arabic Language and Retoric, Interpration of Quran and Islamic Law. Doctoral levels are given in each branch of science education within the Department of Basic Islamic Sciences. There are a total of 4-year educating period, includes thesis period.

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) diploma; a minimum Cum. GPA of 80/100 or 3/4; a minimum score of 60 from the nation-wide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 60 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM. Transcript; a minimum score of 75 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

4 years, 2 semesters per year,16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Dokuz Eylul University Graduate School of Social Science Basic Islamic Sciences Doctorate Degree Program has 21 teaching staff and 8 research assistants. There is a library that can facilitate the researches and thesis studies of the students and also wireless internet opportunity. The language of education and instruction is Turkish.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates, awarded the degree of PhD in Basic Islamic Sciences are able to perform their jobs more professionally and they can assigned as research assistant or lecturer in the faculties of Science and Literature, Education, Human Sciences and especially in the faculties of theology.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (81 ECTS), a field study (6 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
