General Description

History

Department of Sculpture was formed in 1986. By constantly renewing its program its aim has been to raise self confident, creative and contemporary individuals who are complete in every respect.
The program applied by the Deparment of Sculpture has been formed by examining the studies for undergraduate programmes carried through by the universities in and outside of Turkey.
In this program, the sculpture courses being the basis education fort the deparment, a process of analysing the problems of creating a form with conventional and contemporary materials and tecniques, exploring the possibilities of composition and expression and questioning originality has been applied to for years. While the practicing courses thought to teach the profession are given in the beginning classes, the theorical studies are done in the fallowing years.
As a part of the program applied in the department, in the end of I., II., and III. term a study of total 360 hours of practicing is done. This programme of four years is conculuded with a study for diploma. The students from the sculpture department can also assing for Elective courses of other disciplines along with their compulsory courses.
The program of the deparment is based on the choice of the students following the first year. The students ara allowed to choose one of the three sections after a month of examining (modeling, direct carving and multi media). This choice is done in every term and transition of sections is made possible.

High school diploma, placement through a specialized examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

An undergraduate transfer to the faculty is applied within the meritorious regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 27561 dated 24.4.2010 about: transfers between associate degree programs and undergraduate programs, double major, lateral branch and interinstitutional credit transfer making.
In the vertical transfers; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 24676 dated 19.2.2002 about: undergraduate education attendance of graduates of vocational high school and open-university associate degree program is applied.
Within the transfer of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools; the regulation provisions published in Official Journal no: 20112 dated 18.3.1989 about getting associate diploma or adaptation of students who did not or could not complete their undergraduate education to vocational high schools is applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.
1- Training is performed based on course passing system in faculty.
2- Failed courses belong to an academic year are firstly enrolled next academic year.
3- Absolute assessment system is applied in faculty.
4- Grade point avarage (GPA) ; it is calculated by dividing the number which is found by multiplying course credits with marks to total credit in relevant term.
5- General Grade point avarage (GGPA) ; it covers the whole courses and education period so far and is calculated by dividing the number which is found by multiplying all course credits with marks to total credit.
6- Only enrolled courses are taken into consideration in GPA and GGPA calculation, the courses which can not be attend are omitted. The last mark is considered for repeated courses. In average calculation, two decimal after comma is used.
7- The last mark gained for repeated courses is passing mark. Whether have been taking course addition to maximum load not exceedingly two courses or not and its conditions are determined by Faculy Administrative Board. The student must complete 4years of study acquiring 240 (ECTS )credits. At least 60 ECTS of 240 ECTS credits must have been electives courses. This degree is awarded to students who have successfuly completed all courses in the curriculum, 50 days of internship, Graduation project and have a minimum CGPA of 50/100 and no failing grades.

The language of course of the undergraduate program is Turkish.

1   Possessing the required, fundamental, artistic and cultural accumulation of knowledge in the process of sculpture producing,
2   To be able to define the literature related to the sculpture art, the professional terminology and the concepts,
3   To be able to use the fundamental researches, equipment, techniques and the methods related to the sculpture formation,
4   To be able to materialize the accumulation of knowledge related to the sculpture art with sculpture practices,
5   To be able to plan a system or process of production in order to reach a determined target in his/her studies,
6   To be able to benefit from the modern techniques and equipment required for the sculpture practices,
7   To be able to constitute verbal and written communication and to be able to express oneself on the issues related to the sculpture art and works,
8   To be able to work with persons/teams from similar/different disciplines in individual/common projects,
9   To be able to analyze the problems related to sculpture theoretically and practically,
10   To be able to monitor and comprehend the national and international developments in his/her field closely and to be able to comment on his/her works
11   To reach the fundamental sources that will enable him/her improve himself/herself with the principle of lifetime education and training, and to be able to evaluate them with professional responsibility and aesthetic conscience.
12   To be able to transform his/her accumulations related to the sculpture field into innovative and unique by using his/her creativeness,
13   To make contributions to the culture of art by means of exhibiting the unique and innovative results he/she obtained in his/her works,
14   To be able to transform the artistic data he/she obtained through practices into knowledge, to be able to transmit into various methods of presentation (report /thesis), to be able to present them.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

This bachelor degree is sufficient for the student to perform his profession in his/her field. A graduate of the Department of Sculpture Program can work in the field of art and in a production and designing position in the industrial field associated with his/her profession. Along with this, alumnis can evaluate their acedemical carier oppotunities by contiuning their masterate programmes.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 50. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

First Cycles (Bachelor's Degree) education plan consists of compulsory and elective courses, a total of 240 ECTS must be completed for graduation.
