DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: DESIGN AND PRODUCTION

General Description

History

The Mechanical Engineering Department of the Dokuz Eylul University has started its education in 1968 as a part of the Faculty of the Engineering Sciences of Ege University. After Dokuz Eylul University was established in 1982, it joined the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. As the Faculty of the Architecture had departed in 1992, the name of the faculty changed to Faculty of Engineering.

In terms of the faculty members and laboratory facilities, Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the best education organizations in Turkey. The department has started evening education in the 1992-1993 academic year. The main divisions of the Mechanical Engineering Department are Energy, Construction-Manufacturing, Mechanics, Machine Theory and Dynamics, Thermodynamics, and Automative. In addition to the undergraduate program, graduate programs (masters and doctoral) are available under the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.

Mechanical Engineering Department has large laboratory capacities. Laboratories are used to give support to the education in several topics such as design, production, measurement, automation, composite material, welding and materials test, and the industry oriented studies. The laboratory facilities have been continued to increase through several projects.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The Master's and doctoral programs give our students the opportunity to have detailed information and specialization on several areas. Due to this, our graduates can find employment opportunities in the industry specialized in the areas of manufacturing, automative, design, heat transfer, energy, machine theory.
Almost all the graduates can find work opportunities in their specialized areas in the government and private sectors. Approximately 85% of our graduates are employed in private sectors, and 15% are employed in government sectors.

Access to Further Studies

May apply to post doctorate programmes.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In addition to the compulsory courses of the programme, students register to elective courses appropriate for their thesis topic, on the consent of their supervisor. If necessary, on the consent of their supervisor, they can also register to courses from other programmes (from DEU or other universities). It is obligatory to register MAT5101 Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) or MAT5102 Numerical and Approximate Methods (3 0 0) or MAT5151 Methods of Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) with approval of the supervisor. In the case of one of these courses taken during the M.Sc. education, these are not obligatory. The registration must be noticed to the Institute during course registration period by the supervisor. For Ph. D. students it?s obligatory to take minimum 2 non-credit courses among "Ph. D. Programs Common Elective Courses" and be successful with grade (B) within 4 semesters of course taking period.
