Course Objective

To provide capabilities to perform computer aided modeling and numerical analysis in the design of mechanical systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the design requirements for mechanical systems
2   To construct the computer models of machine parts or assemblies
3   To solve the static or dynamic finite element analysis
4   To compare the analysis results for different designs
5   To determine the most suitable design for actual needs

2 Sketch with Solidworks
3 Solid modeling with Solidworks
4 Basic concepts in the finite element method
5 Constructing the finite element model
6 Design criteria and static analysis
7 Defining design scenario: Working with design tables
8 Modal Analysis
9 Midterm Exam
10 Optimization, shell elements.
11 Assembly analysis, working with contact elements.
12 Analysis with beam elements, weldments.
13 Analysis with standard machine parts, bearings and connectors
