General Description

History

Before the establishment of Dokuz Eylul University, The Electric Program continued education within the scope of World Bank and also it was depended on The Ministry of National Education. The program was created at DEU in 1985. It is a 2 years program which includes 4 semesters; each one is with 14 weeks. The program has technical lectures, laboratory applications and industry- based education in these 2 years period.

Electrical Technician Program is a branch of higher education, which is depended on a curriculum that includes some subjects as presentation of all the systems of electrically powered, running of all the systems of electrically powered, finding out the malfunctions, electrical machines and engines operating systems, generation- transmission and distribution of electricity, maintenance and control of factory, design of electricity facilities.

According to these informations the main purpose of the program is to educate individuals those are capable about all subjects of electric and able to interfere the malfunction immediately. They have professional knowledge of both electronic and electric enough to use as engaged, if necessary they can set up their own workshop or build electrical wiring or interfere the malfunctions of a factory immediately.

One of the purposes is to educate people with the ability of using technological devices and to educate people that can reach the extensive knowledge by using the technological devices.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate. The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK).

The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam. According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing.

Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.Given Lecturers are of online in %40 AKTS level.

Profile of the Programme

Industry based basic lessons, include primary electrical informations and they are taught in the classes of our vocational school. Practical lessons are practiced in our program s laboratories. The students have to do their industry based internship for 8 weeks (a business month- compulsory) and they complete their practical lessons by doing internship. The Electric Technologies Program is divided into two groups as formal education and evening education. Turkish is the language of education. There are 50 students at first grade (formal education) and 50 students at first-grade (evening education) as total 100 students are educated in the program. There are 3 academicians in electric program. Two laboratories are used by Electric Technologies Program in Izmir Vocational School. These laboratories are called Basic Electric Lab and Electric Machines Lab.

The laboratories were built by the joint project of YOK (Council Of Higher Education) and World Bank. There are enough technical tools and equipments to practice. Some opportunities such as internship and technical trips are supplied by private sector and public institutions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession.

There are job opportunities both in private sector and public institutions about electrical issues for graduated students. All the systems of factories are electrical, because of that they absolutely need technicians.
In public sector, all the public institutions such as PTT, TEK, and TEDAS have technician positions in their technical services.

Access to Further Studies

According to the "Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Open Education Associate Degree Programs and Vocational Schools Graduates", the Vocational School Graduates, who wish to continue to the Undergraduate Degree, may register to the relevant departments by entering and succeeding the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).
