General Description
History |
Dokuz Eylül University Natural Building Stones Department was founded and affiliated to Dokuz Eylül University Torbalı Vocational School in 1993 with the main mission of training qualified technicians and also to contribute to the economy of the Aegean region by extracting, exploiting and marketing of the natural stones as well as carrying out research and development work. The programme is founded as Marbling Programme and got its current name in 2009. The department accepts about 60 new students every year. Upon successfully completing the obligatory-selective lessons and apprenticeship, the students are graduated. Our programme covers formal education and the education language is Turkish. Academical activities of the department are concentrated particularly on rock mechanics, marble and aggregate technologies, quarrying and plant rehabilitation, architectural design and application of natural stone, mosaic carving-relief and sculpture. The department educates technicians based on practical training in the fields of natural stone, its technology and application. |

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
The program accepts students with the ÖSYM exam. For students who want to transfer from higher education institutions in Turkey and abroad to Dokuz Eylül University, the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer and the Evaluation Conditions related to horizontal transfers determined by our University Senate are applied. . Horizontal Transfer Quotas are announced by the Council of Higher Education. The evaluation is; It is made by the commissions formed in faculties and colleges and announced after being decided by the relevant boards. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
The degree is awarded to student who has successfully completed all the courses in the curriculumin min 2 years, has successfully completed trainings in 40 working days (6 weeks), has a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and completed min 120 ECTS. |
Profile of the Programme |
Natural Stones Technology Programme is objected to educate technicians who can serve in global scale in the light of universal values with the benefit of science, technology and personal developments, develop teaching materials with an accepted global proficiency, gain technical skills to technicians for the characterization and investigation of natural stones, teach related laboratuary and land experiments for research and process developments and finally graduate dynamic technicians who have scienctific fundemental knowledge for natural stone mining, technology and applications. Within this aim, the fundamental lectures are Geology and Rock Information, Marble Factory Machineries, Maping, Quarry Geology, Marble Mineralogy and Petrography, Mable Manufacturing Methods, Natural Stone Standards. Within the scope of laboratuary based lectures, microstructural, physical and mechanical properties of natural stones are teached in rock mechanic laboratuary, soil mechanic laboratuary, microscopy laboratuary and geology laboratuary |

Graduates of Programme of Natural Stones Technology are employed in a wide range of positions in both the private and public sectors. Our graduates can acquire positions in different fields of the private sectors focused on natural stone mining, technology and applications. Graduates can work in related companies and foundations as a technician, researcher and saler. |
Access to Further Studies |
May apply to first cycle programmes. For the transfering to first cycle programmes, students have to pass Vertical Transfer Examination organized by ÖSYM. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
Relevant grading is applied to courses and min grade has to be DD for passing the course and min grade is cumulatively CC to be graduated.The course evaluation criteria are defined for each course by the instructor(s) of the corresponding course and are given in the Course Description Form found in the information package. |

The Associate's Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, including 40 ( 6 weeks) days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 scale have got no failing grades. |
