General Description

History

The Welding Technology Program was established with the aim of raising qualified intermediate staff needed by the manufacturing industry, which is compatible with the developing industry and technology, equipped with theoretical and applied training knowledge, has high professional skills, and can produce fast and practical solutions to the problems it encounters. Those who successfully complete all courses and internships of the students enrolled in the department graduate from the Welding Technology Program and gain the title of Welding Technician.

Specific Admission Requirements

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

To educate qualified intermediate staff who are able to carry out any kind of welding process required by the manufacturing industry, which is compatible with developing industry and technology, equipped with theoretical and applied training knowledge, has a high level of professional skills, and can produce fast and practical solutions to the problems encountered.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Applies mathematics, science, and analytical knowledge to the relevant fields
2   Knows the theoretical and practical knowledge of welding methods as well as the basic concepts of welding technology
3   Knows the welding analysis techniques, analyze and interpret the results
4   Provides the ability to recognize the problems related to welding technique, offer solutions and develop practical solutions
5   Provides the technical drawing, reading and using it in the subjects it needs in its profession
6   Understand welded construction projects, planning the manufacturing process and planning the welding application in accordance with the standards
7   Provides the competence to recognize the types of materials, to choose materials, to choose the proper heat treatment and manufacturing techniques
8   Achieves an awareness of the necessity of lifelong learning and consistently self-improving besides of following the developments in science and technology
9   Knows the job security, human health and environmental protection measures and apply them
10   Uses of information technologies and communication tools
11   Prone to team work, creative studies and has high level of communication skills
12   Have the awareness about entrepreneurship, R&D, innovation and industrial revolution

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Welding Technology Program are employed in a wide range of positions in both the private and public sectors. Our graduates can acquire positions in different fields of the private sector, such as metal and machinery industry including welded manufacturing activities, companies that design and manufacture steel construction, iron and steel and non-ferrous metal industry, automotive and automotive supply industries, rail systems and energy and pipelines, as well as welding machine manufacturing.

Access to Further Studies

Welding technology associate degree program who has completed successfully the vertical made by Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), if they are successful in the Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, Metal Teacher degree programs can transfer to the vertical.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Relevant grading is applied to courses and min grade has to be DD for passing the course and min grade is cumulatively CC to be graduated. The course evaluation criteria are defined for each course by the instructor(s) of the corresponding course and are given in the Course Description Form found in the information package.

Graduation Requirements

The Associates Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all 2 years courses with a total 120 ECTS in the curriculum, including 40 days (8 weeks) of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 scale without any failing grades.
