Course Objective

Teaching steel types.

Teaching how to choose the material (steel/non-ferrous metal), welding method, current type for a desired welded manufacturing project; and, if the method requires, how to choose the electrode, welding wire and shielding gas.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can explain the types of steel.
2   Can select appropriate steel/non-ferrous metal material for welded manufacturing project in line with desired features.
3   Can explain the effects of alloying elements on steel.
4   In the welding project performed with covered electrode electric arc welding; he/she can make material selection, electrode selection, current type selection.
5   For the welding manufacturing project carried out with GTAW (TIG), he/she can select the manufacturing material, electrode, current type-polarization, welding wire, and shielding gas.
6   For the welding manufacturing project carried out with GMAW, he/she can select the manufacturing material, current type-polarization, welding wire, and shielding gas.
7   For a desired welded manufacturing project, he/she can select the material (steel/non-ferrous metal), welding method, current type; if the method requires, the electrode, welding wire and shielding gas.
