General Description

History

Department of Biomedicine and Health Technologies was established in 2016 with the approval of YOK. Our department has 18 professors competent in various fields of biomedicine and health technologies. Biomedicine and Health Technologies graduate programs started training in 2020-2021 Academic year. The duration of the program is 4 semesters and total 2 years. The language of the program is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The department of Biomedicine and Health Technologies has started its graduate training in the year 2021. The objectives of this programme are to educate individuals having a good maitrise of basic and up-dated theoretical and laboratory information in biomedicine and health technologies and closely related fields, to train students in basic laboratory skills as well as those skills necessary for thier thesis, to teach them how to analyse, make a synthesis, and evaluate, to train them in data searching and in scientific methodology and in effective scientific communication. Students can choose electives from other departments as well as from other universities.

3   Being able to use basic health technology and bioinformatics and bioengineering methods
4   Understanding the research process from hypothesis generation to final presentation of results
5   Being able to generate testable research questions from the observations
6   Being able to scan the literature, conduct a research project, record and analyze the data
7   Knowing and practicing all relevant national/international/professional, ethical and legal regulations in specified field
8   Displaying effective communication skills including oral and written presentation

The related Master's degree enables the holder to do doctoral studies.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of courses take place using two mid-term and one final examination, written assignments, and projects. The minimum requirement for success is 75/100 points.

Graduation Requirements

The Master's Degree is awarded to students who have successfully (min CB) completed minimum 21 credits of compulsory and elective courses, specialized field, seminar and research thesis during minimum 4 semesters, maximum 6 semesters.
