Course Objective

Proteins, which are one of the important macromolecules for organisms, are used in many fields including medical, pharmacological, food and analytical industries. The structure, engineering, sources and production, purification and characterization of proteins will be discussed within the context of this course. Also, proteins used for therapeutical, analytical purposes and industrial purposes will be evaluated.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand three dimensional structure, folding mechanisms, post translational modifications and functions of proteins, and enzyme kinetics.
2   Have knowledge about proteomics and protein engineering.
3   Have knowledge about protein sources, engineering, production, purification and characterization method(s) for the application fields of protein biotechnology.
4   Evaluate the biotechnological importance of proteins in therapeutical, industrial, analytical fields of biotechnology.
5   Determine proper source, production, purification and characterization method(s) of proteins.
