General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Maritime Business Administration Department was established in 1993. Under the roof of this Department, Logistics Administration Masters Program started education in 2010. The program aims to educate, improve and expertise its students who will work in the logistics sector, teach them the philosophy of science. The graduates of the program will be able to carry out scientific researches and can be employed as middle or top level managers in logistics organizations both in public and private sector. The medium of instruction of the Program is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The overall aim of the Logistics Management Master's program is to educate individuals who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required by the industry, who know the relevant ethical values well and can provide effective access at specialized levels. Individuals who complete the program will realize logistics, supply chain and maritime transportation solutions, taking into account the priorities in efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety, security and environment in the international, national and societal context. Iin the fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transportation. They can take an active role in projects in the public or private sector within the scope of national and international arena.

Education and scientific research activities of the program are carried out in equipped classrooms, and Port operations, Logistics, Computer and Management Simulation labs. Students and academics have access to both wireless and ethernet line, internet connections and a library. The medium of instruction of the program is Turkish.

1   Adopts the competitive advantage dimension of logistics, supply chain and transportation in global economy.
2   Embraces the role of logistics, supply chain and transportation in terms of decreasing costs and increasing customer service within the Turkish economy.
3   Leads the research methods in social sciences with regard to logistics, supply chain and transportation.
4   Designs and implements modeling, simulation, optimization and other experimental designs in logistics, supply chain and transportation.
5   Creates differentiation by increasing the current working environment standards beyond the quality system standards
6   Sets strategies, and transforms them into reports when asked, for the industry, taking into account the overall situation, bottlenecks and environmental impacts concerning the logistics, supply chain and transportation.
7   Actively gets involved in the national and international projects conducted by both private and public sectors on logistics, supply chain and transportation
8   Takes initiative in the multidisciplinary team works on logistics, supply chain and transportation and proposes solutions to the problems encountered.
9   Acts in compliance with the requirements related with the professional standards, ethical responsibilities and work safety.
10   Conducts intra and interdisciplinary team works in the fields of logistics, supply chain and transportation and expresses his/her views written and/or orally based on his/her independent decision making competence.
11   Develops original outlooks and methods and innovative solutions in designing system, part or process in logistics, supply chain and transportation.
12   Develops skills in implementation - control - feedback and assessment cycle, creating new knowledge through information processing competencies in logistics, supply chain and transportation.
13   Develops his/her knowledge in the same or related fields into specialized level, based on his bachelor level competencies in logistics, supply chain and transportation.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Logistics Administration Masters Program are employed in top level management of different fields of the private sector, such as logistics companies, transportation companies, warehouse companies, export-import companies, custom broker, ship management companies, ship agents, ship brokers, port and terminal companies, marine insurances companies. Also graduates can be employed as research assistants, lecturers, or academics in universities.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Courses in the program are given in two semesters. While compulsory courses are designed to cover all functions of logistics companies, elective courses are designed in a way that the student can specialize on a certain logistics business function. There are compulsory and elective courses in the program. Elective courses are offered in both Fall and Spring semesters. Students must take elective courses as well as compulsory courses. Students must take 30 ECTS courses in a semester (including elective courses, seminar and field study courses).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
