General Description

History

The aim of the program is to provide an opportunity for those interested in art, culture and history to deepen their knowledge about museology and to teach them theoretical and practical aspects of the field. The language of the program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Academic staff of Dokuz Eylul University Museum Studies Programme has 4 lecturers, 2 specialists and 1 research assisant.Non-thesis MA Programme lasting one and a half year consists of 3 semesters. Course language is Turkish. Although there is still 188 state and 140 private museums and 1500 collectors in Turkey,and it increases day by day, just two universities - Ankara Başkent and Dokuz Eylul have museum studies bachelor s programmes. As to MA Programmes on Museum Studies are Istanbul Yıldız Technical University, Mimar Sinan University and Dokuz Eylül University. The primary purpose of this is to enable their knowledge on muesum studies deeper and deeper who has bachelor's degree on art, history, culture as well as collectors, providing teorical and practical information and improving oneself in the field of museum studies.

1   Students are expected to acquire the terminology and basic concepts related to Museology.
2   Students are expected to have professional competence in all applied fields related with museums and museology.
3   Students are expected to be aware of the interdisciplinary interaction between the field of Museology and other fields.
4   Students are expected to acquire knowledge on the theoretical and practical aspects of Museology.
5   Students are expected to establish relations between museology and cultural processes
6   Students are expected to interpret and apply their acquired knowledge by integrating it to knowledge coming from different fields.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Students being graduated from Non-thesis Museum Studies MA Programme gain information and skill on museums, exhibition, design, educational programmes additional to academic studies.State and public museums, private museums and virtual museums which have a remerkable increase, create new workspaces for graduates.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 75 ECTS), Term Project (15 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
