General Description

History

Department of Sculpture continues its master of art and sufficiency in art programmes, previously commenced in Dokuz Eylül University Institution of Social Studies in the academic year of 1988 / 89, from 2002 on, at the Fine Arts Institute of the same university .
The Department of Sculpture takes the education of sculpture as a whole of undergraduate, postgraduate and sufficiency in art programmes. The programme comprises of such processes as recognition, experimentation, research and creativity. The department aspires to raise self-confident, creative and contemporary individuals who are complete in every respect.
The programme applied by the Deparment of Sculpture has been formed by examining the studies for undergraduate, postgraduate and sufficiency in art programmes carried out by the universities in and outside of Turkey.
The postgraduate concludes with a thesis which includes the images of the works exhibited and a theoretical research about the genre used. The sufficiency in art concludes with an exhibition and a report about the processes of creating and documenting the exhibition.

Transfer Students
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management
The Graduate Transfers
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legşilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

4 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 240 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Four faculty member, three research assistant and a technican fulfill their duties in the Sculpture Department. Within the Department, there are five units of Sculpture and a unit of drawing workshops whihc are prepared according to the variety of artistic productions models. Furthermore, our department organize some events like exhibitions, technical trips, symposiums and etc. during a school year.
Within the compass of Erasmus Programme, Sculpture Department had run a mutual programmes with "Academia Di Belle Arti Roma-Italy", "School of Art and Design Nottingham Trent University-England", "Academia Di Belle Arti Catania-Italy" Universities, and had performed an exchange of four students and an academcian by undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to this, two students coming through the exchange programme from "Szeged University Faculty of Art Education-Hungary" to Sculpture Department had taken the advantage of operate in the workshops alongside their education.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To possess the artistic and cultural accumulation of knowledge in a top level that will constitute the substructure in the process of sculpture producing,
2   To be able to define the accumulation and equipment of professional knowledge on the issue of technique, material and method in his/her field,
3   To be able to describe the related literature, Professional terminology and concepts in his/her field of specialty,
4   To be able to plan and actualize the whole process of the artistic works,
5   To define the material for the sculpture practices, to make a correct selection, to give shape, to be able to use the required modern technical and equipment,
6   To be able to evaluate, position and present his/her works in a national and international level,
7   To possess the skill to be able to create and exhibit unique and innovative statues possessing aesthetic value,
8   To be able to create and manage a project in his/her field,
9   To reach and be able to evaluate the sources that will enable him/her to develop himself/herself in the issues related to area of sculpture within the framework of the principle of lifetime training and education.
10   To be able to make written and verbal communication with the specialists in his/her field on the issues related to sculpture, to be able to express himself/herself, to be able to carry out team work,
11   To solve problems on the issues related to his/her field, to analyze its results and to draw conclusions from the findings by transforming them into the form of knowledge, to be able to make a judgment by professional responsibility and ethical awareness,
12   To be able to monitor and comprehend the current discussions in the national and international culture, art and academic environment, to be open to new inclinations in the field of art,
13   To be able to contribute to the development of the artistic admiration in the national and international level with his unique ideas and works of art through the awareness of the social and cultural effects of the artistic works,
14   To be able to transfer the artistic researches, creation processes and results to different presentation methods (reports, articles, thesis, announcements, etc.).

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Third Cycle (PhD/Doctorate, proficiency in art Degree) programmes is sufficient for the student to perform his profession in his/her field. A graduate of the Department of Sculpture Program can work in the field of art and in a production and designing position in the industrial field associated with his/her profession. Along with this, alumnis can evaluate their acedemical carier oppotunities by contiuning their proficiency in art programmes.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to post doctorate studies.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Graduate School of Fine Arts Educational and Examinational Regulations. The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is 75. Detailed assessment methods and criteria for courses are explained in syllabi.

Graduation Requirements

Third Cycles (Doctorate Degree) education plan consists of compulsory and elective courses, a total of 240 ECTS must be completed for graduation.
