General Description

History

The Department of International Trade and Business was founded in 2008 within the Faculty of Business. The Department offers theory and practice based interdisciplinary courses which integrate management, economics, accounting and finance, marketing, international trade, international business management courses in order to develop strategies and generate solutions for complex international business problems by considering the effects of international enviromental factors in dynamic structure of international business arena. The medium of instruction is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

High school diploma, placement through a national-wide Student Selection Examination, DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test (Minimum 65) or TOEFL-IBT (minimum 72) or equivalent.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

General frame for recognition of prior learning is arranged in Dokuz Eylul University Educational and Examinational Regulation of Pre-Graduate and Undergraduate Degree through the articles 11-12-13-14. Details are explained in DEU Faculty of Business Educational and Examinational Regulations based on the regulation of the DEU.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The Bachelors Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS. Regulations arrange the details of the requirements:

Profile of the Programme

Department of International Trade and Business offers theory and practice based interdisciplinary courses which integrate management, economics, accounting and finance, marketing, international trade, international business management courses in order to develop strategies and generate solutions for complex international business problems by considering the effects of international enviromental factors in dynamic structure of international business arena.
Students studying in the International Trade and Business undergraduate program may receive a major to prepare themselves for a career in the global business environment. Majors offered by the DEU International Trade and
Business Undergraduate program are as follows;
International Business and Management
Foreign Trade
International Finance and Banking
In order to declare a major in one of these areas of specializations students have to select three (3) required major electives and four (4) major electives. Majors received will be affirmed in diploma supplements. Student can not declare to receive more than one major.
Students enrolled in any one of the DEU Faculty of Business departments other than the Department of International Trade and Business may apply for the Minor program, namely
International Business and Management
Upon fulfilling the requirements of minor program regulations according to which students should take four (4) reguired and four (4) elective courses, students are entitled to receive the Minor in International Business and Management. Quota is two (2) students from each department.
International Trade and Business comprises six (6) instructor and three (3) research assistants.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Make use of other disciplines that international business and trade is based upon (economics, law, sociology, business administration) and to have the basic knowledge of these disciplines.
2   Share the ideas, recommendations and solutions on the issues of international business and trade with the relevant stakeholders by supporting these ideas and proposals through quantitative and qualitative data in written and verbal manner, both in Turkish and in English.
3   Read, write and communicate in English at least at CERF B2 Level, efficiently.
4   Use computer skills at an advanced level (European Computer Driving License Advanced Level).
5   To take responsibility as a team leader and member to solve multidimensional problems.
6   Build up on acquired knowledge, skills and qualifications for professional and social uses.
7   To possess ethical and social values in issues, process, research of international business and trade.
8   Examine, interpret data and assess concepts and ideas with scientific methods in the field of international business and trade.
9   Comprehend the requirements of international competition, as well as differing business patterns and traditions of various countries.
10   Above and beyond the essentials of international business management, economics and trade, mainly in field of import-export operations, international economic institutions and functioning of international money and capital markets, have sufficient and up-to-date knowledge and skills required to focus on a chosen field.
11   Being fully aware of the requirements of the international (consumer and industrial) markets; develop strategies and take swift decisions in finance, management, production and marketing in broad spectrum in the international business environment including events of crises.
12   To possess leadership and management abilities, needed for an international manager and entrepreneur.
13   To deliberate and act multi-dimensionally and analytically, focusing on technology, creativity and innovation.
14   Have comprehension, oral and written skills in a second foreign language other than English at least at the level of CEFR B1 (Common European Framework of Reference).
15   In a resolved and self-disciplined way, be able to make efficient use of negotiation techniques.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the Department of International Trade and Business are employed at management positions in all types of firms operating at international level, foreign trade, banking and finance-related government agencies, municipal, regional and local trade agencies, chambers of commerce, free zones, economic development agencies etc.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In order to meet international standards, four course categories have been defined in the undergraduate program of International Trade and Business. Faculty Core Courses (20%): Calculus, Statistics, Fundamentals of Information Technology, Sociology, Social Psychology, Humanities, Career Planning and Introduction to Law that aim to support core courses of the profession. Integrated Language Skills, Advanced Writing Skills, Communication Skills, and Volunteerism Studies that aim to develop transferable skills. Departmental Core Courses (49%): These are the fundamental courses of the profession. Departmental Electives (23%): Courses aiming to extend education in accordance with the students relevant area of interest. Unrestricted Electives (8%): Courses aiming at providing the students a broad flexibility for individual development and career choices. These courses also seek to enrich the students perspective and intellectual level.

The regulations for examination and grading are arranged in the fourth part of DEU Faculty of Business Educational and Examinational Regulations (http://isletme.deu.edu.tr/kurumsal/ana-menu-ogrenciler/deu-isletme-fakultesi-sinav-ve-uygulama-esaslari). The lowest grade to be successful in a credit course is DD. Other grades; Incomplete (I) accorded to students who, although otherwise successful, have failed to complete the required assignments for a course. A student receiving an incomplete grade for any course must make up for the deficiencies within 30 days after submitting the grades to Registrars Office. Otherwise, the grade I automatically becomes FF. Satisfactory (S) accorded to students who are successful in non-credit courses. Unsatisfactory (U) accorded to students who are unsuccessful in non-credit courses. Exempt (E) is given to students who transfer to the program from another, after the equivanlence of courses they have taken previously is recommended by the dean/director and approved by the faculty board. This grade may provide an exemption for a particular course at the program.
No Attendance (NA) is given upon failure to attend classes or complete practical or applied components of a course. (NA) configures in CGPA as FF.

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelors Degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minnimum Cumulative. Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS.
