Course Objective

o understand the main characteristics of the Late Ottoman Empire; the transformation of the Ottoman Foreign Policy within the scope of theoretical conception; problems and their solution processes; and the Ottoman legacy Republican Turkey have.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to know the context and sources of the Late Ottoman diplomacy.
2   to know the international problems Ottoman Empire faced.
3   to evaluate the main characteristics of the Ottoman diplomacy.
4   to evaluate the changes in European diplomacy.
5   to analyse the reflection of Ottoman modernization on diplomacy.
6   to present a paper dealing with the period by using historical sources.
