Course Objective

The course covers the definition and measurement of metacognition, the cognitive underpinnings of metacognitive judgments, the cognitive neuroscience of self-monitoring ranging from confidence to error-monitoring, neuropsychiatric studies of disorders of metacognition and research results within the field of metacognition.

The main approach of the course is associated with examination of the metacognitive functions of the brain within a contemporary frame.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Will be able to define key terms, concepts and theories in metacognition.
2   2. To be able to describe cognitive mechanisms related to metacognition.
3   3. To be able to define metacognitive functions of the brain and neural basis of metacognitive ability
4   4. To be able to develop knowledge of failures of metacognition
5   5. To be able to have knowledge of current topics and follow recent researches in metacognition.
6   6. To be able to present their research ideas effectively and acquire specific skills for research in metacognition.
7   7. To be able to critical analyse and reflect around current research and debates within metacognition.

Assessment Criteria

In total, one final and two homework (one of it will be presentation) will be conducted. There will be open-ended questions in the levels of information, comprehension, analysis, interpretation and synthesis for all exams.
