Course Objective

This course - to have information of the student within intensive care nursing- focuses on the needs of critically ill patient's family, ethical and legal responsibility of the nurse, care management and monitoring of the patient experiencing complex disorders and learning the suggestions of systematic analysis/evidence-base guides.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students explain knowledge related to critical patient care management in the field of surgical nursing inclusively.
2   They discuss the evidence-based practice about knowledge related to critical patient care in the field of surgical nursing.
3   They use the basic technological devices related field of surgical nursing regarding critical patient care management.
4   They use the proper communication skills in the field of surgical nursing conduct multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team collaboration.
5   They act ethically and legally to critical patient care management in the field of surgical nursing.

1 The history of intensive care nursing, roles and responsibilities Organizations and associations concerned with Intensive care nursing
2 Invasive and non-invasive monitoring and nurse responsibility in the patients in ICU.
3 Mechanical ventilation in the patients in ICU
4 Neurological diagnosis, KIBAS, management of cerebral herniation in ICU
5 Intracranial pressure monitoring, measuring and nursing approaches in the prevention of secondary brain injury in the patients in ICU.
6 Patients care management in hypercapnic and hypoxemic respiratory failure in ICU
7 Pulmonary embolism diagnosis, treatment and nursing approaches in ICU
8 Midterm
9 Cardiovascular system diagnosis, cardiac deficiency and nursing approaches in ICU.
10 Acute Renal Deficiency and Nursing Approaches in the patients in ICU
11 Pharmacological agents in the treatment of the patients in ICU and nursing approaches.
12 Multiple organs failure case management in ICU
13 To define the psycho-sociological problems, to determine and manage the needs of the patient and her/his family in the ICU
14 Ethical and legal issues in ICU
15 Patient safety and staff safety in the ICU

It is expected that homeworks and reports are prepared in APA format in computer.

Assessment Criteria

In the exams; the skills of interpreting, recalling, and deciding, explaining, classifying, integration information will be assessed.
In the assignment; the skills of reaching correct and critical information, evaluating information critically, choosing information/skill/method necessary for nursing care, and problem solving will be assessed.
