Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce students the administrative techniques and administrative problems related to recreation and leisure services. It will provide the students readings, class activities and cases to create a philosophy of recreation and leisure management.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognise the conceptual foundations of play, recreation and leisure to effectively differentiate the related services from other touristic services (knowledge & comprehension)
2   Recognise the importance of personal values & competencies which affect his/her success as a manager to be familiar with different managerial styles (knowledge & comprehension)
3   Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of recruitment, selection, training, supervision, motivation to apply the developed human resources/ social skills to recruiting staff to recreation & leisure services (knowledge & comprehension)
4   Recognise the importance of different managerial approaches such as time management, conflict management to apply to recreation & leisure services to increase their efficiency and effectiveness (knowledge & comprehension)
5   Develop a personal philosophy of recreation and leisure management to adapt it to managerial activities (application)
