Course Objective

To develop a philosophical understanding of arguments developed by contemporary currents in art such as impressionism, formalism, expressionism, surrealism, cubism, futurism and constructivism, and to make a critique of traditional theories of art and aesthetics from the perspective of contemporary thinkers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   By the end of this course students will be able to comprehend philosophical evaluation of currents in art.
2   understand the theories underlie contemporary currents in art.
3   learn the problems presented by contemporary currents in art and develop arguments about related problems, and convey the solutions derived to others.
4   raise new philosophical questions about art and aesthetics developed in contemporary times.
5   ground the developed ideas on safe foundations.
