Course Objective

Explore the outline and principles of Rene Descartes's moral philosophy.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows that the highest point in the philosophical system of Descartes as the highest form of wisdom is moral philosophy. 2   Knows that Descartes developed the principles of his moral philosophy primarily in the Discourse on the Method, Passions of the Soul and in his correspondence with Princess Elisabeth. 3   Can describe why and in what form Descartes's moral philosophy may be described as a form of ethics of eudaimonia. 4   Can present Descartes's theory of passions. 5   Can discuss Descartes theory of ther will and desire, and relate these theories to Descartes's theory of liberty.
