Course Objective

Regulation of drilling site selection field, the fulfillment of legal procedures, drill, keeping a daily and monthly reports, project preparation, application of well constructed, the costsunder control, long-lasting, aquifer-destructive, digging of water wells, and to determinethe production parameters

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Specifies the design and construction requirements for groundwater production
2   Specifies of water borehole equipments. According of the rock-soil formation, and underground water qualifications, define water borehole equipments
3   Realize the process of digging wells, according to the borehole plan
4   How to know the basic principles for the use of rotary, and diamond drilling machines
5   To understand the meaning of the drilling muds and borehole tests, in his profession

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction of the water well drilling. (History Basic concept).
2 Preliminary studies (collection and evaluation of previous studies, the legal status of the well)
3 For layout planning of construction site (Site requirements and supplies,machinery equipment, park identification, sketch of site preparation,establishing a team work, and times to determine the number of Watchkeeping)
4 Safety rules
5 The seminar (introduction of drilling sector, companies in deep wells, geothermal companies)
6 Machinery installation, drilling preparation (to be leveling the machine, tower, Kelly, rock bit assembly, preparation of drilling mud)
7 Drilling Process (Progress, weight loads on bit, maneuver, keeping the notebook Watchkeeping)
8 Well casing and screen (casing types, screen types, selection screen and casing according to soil-rock formation, proses of the casing)
9 Midterm exam
10 Proses of installation gravel pack
11 Proses of Well development
12 Well test
13 During drilling operations to be considered in terms of groundwater pollution

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Promote the profession of drilling. Introduction of major companies in drilling sector. Opportunities for the drilling profession. The future of drilling sector. Drilling rigs types according of their goals and capacities. Basic drilling applications. The importance at the drilling job of borehole tests and drilling mud. These issues will be explained in the form of lecture and practice. Introduction of the drilling sector will be transferred to our students as style of presentation by the drilling sector companies.
