Course Objective

In this course; students are expected to be capable of designing products using leather and its product processing knowledge, be capable of combining the leather with additional materials and other accessories, be capable of making their design into product and to be capable of developing product.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   By the end of this course, students are expected to: In light of the foregoing leather and its product processing knowledge; to be able to make researches on a preset theme be able to use the research to influence the leather product design and to be able to present this process on a storyboard
2   Be capable of producing sketches using the information on the storyboard, be able to make the technical analysis of the chosen sketches and to be able to design leather products.
3   Be capable of applicating pattern for a leather product.
4   Be capable of fitting the leather pieces, alternative materials and accessories together
5   Be capable of finishing the product and preparing it for presentation.
6   Be capable of preparing the visual presentation of the designed and produced product.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 To set a theme, define and build it up with related visual examples in order to design a leather product.
2 Researching through theme, setting the concepts, discussions on theoretical and visual information and directions
3 Preparation of storyboards that will direct the design by the help of visuals which are strenghtening the conceps, identification of target audience, colour alternatives, materials and their alternatives.
4 Preparation of sketches through the identified criteria
5 Selection of sketches, transition to designs
6 Preparation of patterns, cutting and assembling the leather.
7 Finishing the product and preparation of visual presentation.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Course and its processes:
Instructor directs the students to research within a preset theme. He carries over the effects of the data of research in the field of leather product design. Informs the students on the material pattern and production methods of the sketches. The production phases of design into product is taught. Students are guided to present the finished product visually.

Research Topics and Presentations:
Instructor explains the research methods within the course. The students develop skills of designing product, manufacturing product, being capable of commenting on leather product design in the atelier. They become active in designing and presenting a leather product.

Course Policies and Rules

1.There is an 80 % obligation in attendance to lesson.
2. All plagiarism attempts and actions would end up in disciplinary punishment
3. If one doesn t hand over the required sketch- design studies on time, the evaluation would be carried out by taking this into consideration. But the student is supposed to hand over required things.
4. For late project deliveries, decreasing a letter grade for each day will be applied.
